My family and I love the fact we can catch up on missed BBC programmes via BBC iplayer on our KDL-40EX703, but with two members of the family having hearing problems, we really need to be able to access subtitles. The BBC have said that availability of subtitles is down to which version of iplayer Sony are using, but this lack of subtitles is also common to LoveFilm and Video Unlimited streaming services. Is there something I need to activate on the TV itself to be able to have subtitles with these services?

So in summary my 'smart tv' is now missing iplayer, 4OD and ITV Player. All I have left from freeview channels on my TV I bought less than three years ago is 5 on demand. Oh and that rubbish BBC News app, which isn't really on demand, it's just a loop of the headlines. That's awesome.

How To Download Bbc Iplayer On Sony Bravia

Also got same problem with KDL-46HX823. BBC iplayer been working fine for aound 2 years. This is not a networking or internet issue. Found the same problem on my BDP-490, but firmware upgrade + internet content refresh fixed the problem. However, iPlayer then took around two minutes to 'download' and start. I suspect the BBC have changed something and the TV is timing out the connection. On the TV I get an opera display stating 3 possible failures to display the target . page. i.e. - URL incorrect, Network problem, Internet problem. If you hold down the select key on the remote.you get a second page displayed for around a second which has the text '/bigscreen' in it. Unfortunately is is not displayed long enough to record the full text..

This works well on my Sony X95H.

I use DNS4me but should work with any DNS or VPN

This is built for Android TV and is a lot better than just an android version or a Kodi add on. I have Kodi on my TV and us it a lot but not for iplayer.

You can have multiple users but of course you need a valid address from the UK.

The UK Sony TV's come with a BBC iplayer Android Version already loaded, which get's updated by Sony, hence why it's not on the app store.

I went through the same process as you until I realised it was not possible. I had the iplayer sideloaded but not the Android TV version.

With my previous Sony TV I had the Android TV version but it disappeared when I had to do a factory reset and I was never able to get it back. My wife was not happy as we had two logins and it was/is very easy to switch between the two. She has all her programmes , separate from mine. The only way around this was to have her's on the Sony and mine on Apple TV. Neither seemed as good as the Android TV version, picture wise and having to switch from one to the other was a pain.

It was only by chance that I found the link to enable me to sideload Android TV iplayer.

As regards updating, I've only bothered to do it once and that's over a couple of years at least. The current version seems very stable.

Have been trying to sideload bbc iplayer, all4 and itvx on my Sony (android) tv. Model: KD-559000E. Getting apk from apkmirror. All are saying not compatible with the tv. Does anyone have a compatable apk link for this model tv?

I am assuming you mean 55X900E

Should work.

Try downloading to a PC from apkmirror and then transfer to a USB.

Then using something like X-plore ( available from Play store) to install the apk.

Just tried All4 from apkmirror and it startted to download.

Make sure that you download this -applications-technologies-for-the-bbc/bbc-iplayer-android-tv-2/bbc-iplayer-android-tv-2-0-4-9-release/bbc-iplayer-android-tv-0-4-9-android-apk-download/

for BBC iplayer as it's a much better on Sony TV than the other iplayer option.

I got my AF9 (65") in September and it played the UHD test loop (football) in HLG (using the iplayer beta settings menu). A few weeks later I tried to find Dynastied in UHD - no luck - and raised as a issue with Sony customer service. After a few days they came back and said that there was a problem with iplayer UHD on the AF9 (but not AF8 or A1! - bizarre!) and were working on it (is it about paying royaltiesto BBC etc.?)

I have a Bravia TV with built in iplayer. I usually try to watch programmes in "higher quality", however increasingly I have been having a problem where the programme stops several times during playback to buffer the data. This can be infuriating and stops enjoyment of the programme as it keeps on stopping.

my trusty ps3 is telling me as of 8th, Beeb are dropping iplayer off if it. Fair enough, ps3 is long in the tooth these days. So what next for iplayer? Chromecast? amazon fire stick? does the android iplayer app play nicely with one of these? or is there a better way? now tv box or? Or I guess maybe another PVR that does iplayer as well perhaps?

i got an xbox and it was great in the end, i did want to stick with all sony but i got an xbox ,connected it to the internet using a WNCE3001 from netgear which is the best, stay away from the overpriced sony UWA BR100 as its useless unless the router is in the same room and i have access to about 1000 free films, but i do have sky subscription to movies.

I cant find a way to uninstall the iplayer app. I assume that the iplayer app being part of the Sony Select apps, is installed from new and will be updated with any Sony software updates. The uninstall button is not available for this app. I have powered down the TV several times as you describe.

I have a Sony xr55A80J Smart TV. Watching Now TV (Sports) the TV sometimes completely freezes up. Nothing works from the remote only option is to switch off at plug. I have taken to doing a TV restart each day which closes off the Now app and that is ok, but I shouldn't have to do that. Interestingly I also have the Sony xr55A90J and that has never had an issue. I have a call open with Sony, but you get all the usual questions like do a factory reset etc. which I've done twice to no avail. Other apps like iplayer, discovery plus etc. all seem to be fine. I use Now superfast Broadband and it is perfectly reliable and TVs are ethernet wired so there aren't any network issues ff782bc1db
