it would be great to be able to move the apps (companion & game) to an external storage (SD card) to free up space in internal device storage. E.g. my Samsung Galaxy S7 allows for an SD Card and I would be able to move the 1GB App to the SD Card instead of filling up my device storage (32GB).

I would like to some apps into external disc to free internal memory. There was such option in stock Android. How you do it it LineageOS ? I've checked Setting>Memory and Settings>App and I can;t find an option to move app to external anywhere.

How To Download Apps On External Sd Card

I have an Acer Iconia One 7 tablet running Android 4.4.2. I've plugged an external SD card in it, and kind of expected that I could now "save" my data, such as my apps, pictures and videos, onto this SD card. The most easy solution I found was this button (which I don't have):

With Kitkat your chances for a "complete solution" without rooting are pretty much zero: the Android project has definitely screwed up here. No apps get full access to the external SD card, which rendered a lot of them unusable:

I was able to transfer my photos and videos by plugging the tablet to the pc and transferring files from the tablets internal storage to the tablets sd card through the laptop. Then to save more memory space in the internal storage, i went to the camera apps settings and set the default storage to the sd card.

just got a new A20s. Trying to swich some of my aps to an sd card to save space. Seen various help notes and videos which detail how to do it on a A20s. Basically select app - click storage - tells you whether its on internal or external storage - click the change button (if highlighted) to switch. Basic problem is no change button appears at all and no details as to where the app is stored. Other than that the screen looks the same as on the videos. Imrunning android 10- is this not an option that is available anymore ??If sois there any way I can swich some of the less important apps to the sd card (I know they are unreliable running from an sd card). Have tried a new sd card formatted by the phone

Hi SirStottalot - unlocked developer options and activated 'force allow appson external' that went fine but still do not see any option to change storage location . Have attached a photo of the screen I get when I click on 'storage'for the app.I know this app can be loaded on an sd card as I ran it from the sd card in my previous phone. Is itpossible that samsung have removed this option on the latest software version ??

Hi - thanks for your help. I suspect its down to the software version rather than the app. From what I have read / seen if the app is one that cannot be moved then the 'change' button still appears but is not highlighted so the app cannot be moved. When the app can be moved the 'change'button is highlighted and the switch to the sd card can be made. On my phone no change button appears at all - highlighted or not - so I supect this option is not available in my software version.

Just this week i`ve had 2 bad experiences with buying 2 x Sandisk micro sd cards from two different ebay sellers. Both were defective most likely fakes. Even direct from amazon there have been cases of fake sd card. If you have windows try H2testw or SD insight for android tho i havent tried SD Insight (i dont know what tracker it has if any) as i used H2testw. Or if using linux or mac there some listed on this page

So they changed the way the SD card handler works. Now, if you want to install apps to SD card, you have to bind it to the device, and it is no longer available to file managers as normal accessible memory.

Meaning that apps can only be moved after installation, i.e. at the users discretion hence no problem moving them back. Though not stated the OS may present an option at installation, again, meaning the user has full knowledge of where the app is.

It clearly says that the system decides where (initial internal storage or extended internal storage (=SD card)) apps are installed and that afterwards the user might decide to move. For sure this statement is only applicable after the SD card was formatted as internal.

Android still installs the apps on the internal memory and dumps the data on the SD card. So, you are deprived of installing any further apps if your phone has a scarcity of internal storage, -sd-card-internal-storage-adoptable-storage/

I think if you manually move apps you can manually move them back to internal, if you get Android to automatically migrate when formatting as internal it reverses it when you reformat as portable.

Applications get installed on internal memory which is faster and they are run from there directly. You can save non-applications like songs, videos, and other things on SD card though. If you are very low on internal memory then uninstall some not so frequently used applications.

I am trying vm-ware on an external 64 size card to run another copy of linux onto Ubuntu and load my programs in virtual machine. My trouble is the Acer CB3-111 chromebook has only 2 GB RAM. A fast external drive might help.

Like many of you I wanted to put my second installation of Adobe onto a smaller, lighter tablet that I could carry with me when I wasn't planning on working but wanted to be prepared in case of emergencies. The device I singled out was an HP X2 10", which has 64GB of EMMC storage but supports SD cards. I've used the C:\SD method in the past but it's hit or miss and Animate seems to have issues with it and templates. The following method worked for me to get EVERYTHING installed onto a 128GB microSD card with room to spare. This works for Windows 10 Home and Pro.

Create a suitably large VHD on your micro sd card. 24GB should be enough but it would probably benefit you to make it larger. Browse to your SD card and create a VHD (example given, D:\VirtualDrive.vhd, Virtual hard disk size: 86GB).

I also have a Surface Go and it doesn't have enough space for the full CC suite. As you would know, the previous method of using a mounted version of the SD card got patched. This works fantastically.

Just purchased a Samsung A01 from Verizon. The preloaded apps take up 15.7GB of the 16.0GB Storage. This ridiculous fact not withstanding; I inserted an SD Card and was able to move a small amount of media files from internal storage to the SD Card. However, all attempts at either moving currently installed apps or installing new apps to the SD Card have failed. I have read much on the subject online and for most users, an option of "move to SD Card?" appears on each app's storage section. I have already changed the developers option to "force allow installation of apps to secondary storage", yet the ability still eludes me.

If you read the last post here that phone can't do what you want. 16gb of storage is so little and some get taken up by phone stuff to begin with. I usually make sure to get at least 64gb of internal storage. Just got the samsung note 10 plus with 256gb of internal storage a few months ago and love it. I use a lot of apps and haven't come close to running out of room. Also some apps can't be moved to memory card. Might depend on the app developer. I heard they don't run as good from memory card. On my phone when I go to apps and select one then select storage some of my apps have this option so maybe depends on phone model too.

It doesn't sound like they are failing, sounds like the option to move is not there. Not all apps can be moved and in searching I came upon a post over at samsung with someone asking this and someone confirmed this phone does not have that feature as they called samsung directly and a customer service representative confirmed it.

I bought my son the samsung A51 for Christmas. That phone has 128gb of internal storage and decent. He can move apps to the SD card so for $50 more you get more storage and a better phone. My 28yr old son is not into phones like me so that suits him fine. It amazes me though with only 16gb of storage you can't move apps.

You weren't duped by Verizon as they only sell the phones.. Your gripe is with samsung and Google. Maybe someone knows better but I think Google is the one that decides about moving apps to SD card. Seems to me years ago I heard that some where. I got my sons A51 on verizon at best buy. $200 and paid cash and he has 128gb internal storage. That's still not enough for me but does him fine as he is not into phones. If you just got the phone see if you can exchnge it, even if you have to pay a restocking fee.

I have a Galaxy Tab A 8" 2019. The issue i am having is that i cannot move a single app to my sd card. The funny thing is that I have a Samsung phone and am able to move a lot of the apps to its sd card. Now before you ask, when I select any app that I want to move on my tablet, there is no option to change the storage location at all. No matter what I app I choose I can't move it. I can move photos and videos, but no apps. See attached screen shot. As you can see, there is no choice for move. This particular game i also have on my Samsung phone which I was able to move to my sd card. Any suggestions?

Same with me I just bought the new Galaxy A01 with 16mb. The sales person suggesting this one and I never thought about the low memory. I called Samsung and the representative told me to buy the microSD card. So, I did, but it does not do me any good. I am still stuck with less than 2 mb of storage. Why would they even sell a phone with such low storage. I am very disappointed and may have t return the phone just for more memory.

Your right. When I bought the tablet I was told by Samsung that I could expanded the memory with sd card and now I can't even move most stuff to sd. First and last time I buy Samsung. Waste of 220. Rather get a older ipad again. I'm going back to apple

My old Galaxy Tab 3 was great, I was able to move all apps to my 32GB SD card, I sold it and purchased the Galaxy Tab A7 10.4" just because some game apps were not able to play on my old tablet. I also purchased a 256GB sd card so I'd have plenty of space along w/ the 32GB of internal storage. Now I found out that app won't move/transfer to the sd card for some crazy reason. I regretted selling my old tablet, I'm returning this one, until Samsung or Google fixes the issue. e24fc04721
