The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is a digital infrastructure that stores academic credits earned by students of various higher education institutes in India[5]. The ABC system is mandated by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to transform the Indian education system by promoting flexibility and credit mobility in higher education[3]. The benefits of the ABC system include:

- Student-centric education: The ABC system promotes a more flexible and student-centric education system that enables learners to pursue their academic interests and career aspirations[4].

DigiLocker is a cloud-based platform that offers a convenient and secure way to store and manage important documents, including academic certificates and records[2]. With the implementation of the ABC system, understanding how DigiLocker works becomes crucial for institutes and students alike[2]. The ABC will be entrusted with the responsibilities such as opening, closing, and verifying the individual academic accounts of students, and it will also be responsible for gathering the academic credits earned by the students from their respective higher education institutes[5].

The establishment of the Academic Bank of Credits is based on the National Academic Depository (NAD). In other words, it is the backbone of ABC where academic awards and information of students are stored. We may call it a digital bank of academics or a storehouse of academics.

The Academic Bank of Credits is a system that promotes academic mobility and flexibility, providing students with the opportunity to create their own personalized learning paths, and enabling institutions to attract a wider range of students.

These multidisciplinary degree programs offer a unique opportunity for students to tailor their education to their career goals and interests while providing the flexibility to enter and exit the program at different stages of their academic journey.

An Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is an academic structure in which students can obtain credits by doing academic work in subjects previously taught instead of being taught the same subjects repeatedly. Schools will often offer an accredited grading system or allow students to undergo work experience to obtain credits.

ABC(Academic Bank of Credits)India is a government-recognized agency that can help you get academic credits for your work and will do in the future. In other words, it will issue credit certificates for your quality work. The best part about ABC is that it does not charge any fees for issuing these certificates; it is only for the students, and hence, it comes without any fee at all.

The ABC (Academic Bank of Credits) India is a credit transfer scheme that enables students to earn credits from higher education institutions and enjoy long-term continuity of their academic careers. A Credit Transfer System is a mechanism that allows a student who is enrolled in one institution to transfer their credits earned towards the completion of a degree program to another institution. The credit transfer system facilitates the transfer/redemption of credits awarded to a student for one program from an institution that may be transferred/redeemed by another institution upon the student's consent.

Historically, education in India was very rigid in its approach. The classroom was the only place where students could learn, even though it did not necessarily mean that everyone would absorb everything taught. The examination, grading, and promotion system were so rigid that students were often forced to memorize things they had no interest in or knowledge of. However, thanks to digitalization, the academic world has also seen some changes in the academic curriculum. Education is the platform through which we can pull our society out of poverty. Suppose we can provide education to the underprivileged and disadvantaged at a cost that does not strain their families. In that case, we can help empower our children for brighter futures and better lives for them and their communities. In my view, ABC could create conditions for students to participate in an online education revolution that redefines higher learning in India.

The academic world has many problems that need to be fixed. I would love to be a part of something like ABC, where I could fix those issues and create innovative solutions for the future of education.

Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is a virtual/digital storehouse that houses data on the credits that one student has accrued over the course of their academic careers. This system has been shown to work well in other countries, and it could be the answer to help alleviate stress for students here in India. Now may be the best time to introduce such a futuristic strategy which would provide unlimited possibilities for a student to learn as technology in the education sector is thriving. Therefore, technology may help to ease the transition period for both the student and the teacher.

Academic Bank of Credit is envisaged as a digital bank that holds the credit earned by a student in any course. It is a major instrument for facilitating multidisciplinary and holistic education and multiple entry and exit in higher education.

It said students will be academic account holders to whom the Academic Bank of Credits will provide a variety of services including credit verification, credit accumulation, credit transfer or redemption and authentication of academic awards.

It further added that the organisational structure of academic bank of credits shall be a digital or virtual or online store-house entity of academic credit data base of higher education institution with students as its stakeholder. It will be a bank for academic purposes, on the pattern of commercial banks for financial purposes, with students as academic account holders to whom it shall provide a variety of services including credit verification, credit accumulation, credit transfer or redemption and authentication of academic awards.

The academic credit bank is a unique initiative by the government of India to make the Indian education system more flexible. It allows for student mobility, improves the scope of academic pursuits, and makes the learning process more student-centric than ever before. The ABC attempts to reduce coercive practices by private educational institutions and create better transparency.

The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) has introduced innovative concepts to improve access, equity and quality education in India. It is forward-looking and student-centric, giving students the freedom to choose disciplines, colleges and universities. This freedom is envisioned through the choice-based credit system, multiple entry-multiple exit (MEME) options in a programme and, most importantly, the establishment of an Academic Bank of Credit (ABC). ABC will digitally store academic credits earned from recognised higher education institutions (HEIs) and allow for credit redemption in order to be awarded a certificate, diploma or degree.

Students who may or may not have been enrolled in HEI but wish to pursue an education and consolidate their academic records for employment or other purposes can register with ABC. It enables a student to accumulate institutional credits from numerous sources into a single account.

Customised Learning: ABC offers learners greater choice and flexibility in choosing courses and institutions, allowing a liberal mix of educational programmes that are vocational, academic and more. A student can avail multiple entry and exit options in higher education institutions and opt for a tailor-made degree. They can choose to study one course a year in one institution and switch to another one the next year.

Promotes Employability: Promotes the use of vocational courses, multi-disciplinary courses and multi-modal approaches which lead to better career decisions. The adaptability of academic programs will allow students to find employment after receiving any level of award and return as needed to upgrade their qualifications, reduce the dropout rate, and raise the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education.

EdTech Empowerment: UGC encourages a Blended Teaching-Learning Model for the implementation of ABC. It is recommended that all universities permit students who take courses on the Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) platform to transfer those credits to their academic records. The Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) offered through the SWAYAM platform should be adopted and promoted by universities in order to maximise the benefits for students, according to the UGC. According to the rules governing the SWAYAM platform, an institution may permit SWAYAM to be used for up to 40% of all courses offered in a program during a semester.

The University Grants Commission YouTube Channel aired a discussion on the implementation of the Academic Bank of Credits on December 29, 2022, featuring the UGC Chairman and veteran academician, Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar. The essentials of this conversation have been condensed by IPSR Academix and are available here in this FAQ Section. This section answers all your doubts about ABC implementation.

Academic Bank of Credit is a national-level credit-based, student-centric, and highly flexible digital platform for students to store their academic credits earned from various recognized Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). 2351a5e196
