One useful check is that when you have the SubCap "Select a caption file to import" window open, if you drag the bottom right corner of the window to make it larger, you'll see some text that varies depending on which file you highlight. I like that Emby is downloading the subtitles for me so I don't have to look for them. I am not happy with how it is naming the files. For subtitles to work, the sub files have to match the movie file name. Emby is getting the name correct, but it adds that language to the file name which won't work like that. If movie is called Life, Emby downloads the subtitle file but names it Life.eng.srt. If I rename it to match the movie title, Emby redownloads another file. How can I configure Emby to stick to the movie title and not append the language to the subtitle name?

I could be wrong in saying it doesn't work like that. I am going based on the normal concept that in order for subtitles to work, the subtitle file has to be named EXACTLY like the movie file. I will leave the Emby downloaded file and see if the subtitles work, then I will provide feedback. Thanks for the rapid response.

Well this thread is about naming convention. If the subtitles are listed in the web interface media info, then you know they've been recognized. if that's not your issue then it should be discussed separately. please see -how-to-report-a-problem/

The wiki is ambiguous, all the examples use three letter "eng" but then the final example uses zh-CN, zh-SG ,etc. I have no preference which is used, but I would like to be clear, so I can manually rename existing subtitles on new files to match.

Hello! I'm looking for more information on the "Auto" subtitle language setting on tvOS. I work on a video streaming application which uses AVPlayerViewController, HLS, subtitles in WebVTT format. The app has been in production for quite some time and everything works perfectly with respect to video streaming and subtitles except the "Auto" setting on tvOS, which never results in any subtitles at all.

I can't find any documentation on what criteria the "Auto" setting uses to determine what subtitles to show. I have tried looking at the iTunes app on tvOS as a signifier of correct behavior, but its behavior is inconsistent (sometimes auto shows no subtitles until another language is selected, after which auto will continue to show the recently selected language).

Other pertinent details and things I have already checked:
