After you download an area, use the Google Maps app just like you normally would. If your internet connection is slow or absent, your offline maps will guide you to your destination as long as the entire route is within the offline map.

Offline maps that you downloaded on your phone or tablet must be updated before they expire. When your offline maps expire in 15 days or less, Google Maps tries to update the area automatically when you're connected to Wi-Fi.

Hi, when I import an activity from Apple 'health' into strava my route or maps are not importing. These are originally recorded in the workout app of Apple Watch Ultra. Just the basic info such as distance / time / duration etc is coming across fine, so the accounts are linked ok. I cannot see if there is anything in permissions etc that affects specifically the route / mapping data.

I have all the settings opened up as recommended and tried recording my ride yesterday (with the new Apple cycling workout) but the map and segments didn't come across to Strava....I may just continue to record directly on Strava on my watch

Your tip was the solution for my problem, setting the permissions made it possible that Strava can write to the Apple Work Out app and Vice Versa.

I'm now just playing with the settings to prevent that every walk ends up on Strava (the regular dog walks three times a day) to prevent that everybody gets annoyed/bored with all the walks which are the same

Apple unveiled its new features globally at the recently concluded WWDC 2022. Almost a 2-hour-long event gave us significant details about the iOS 16, Apple Maps, M2 chip, and newly-developed MacBook Air.

iPhone users would love to navigate routes using Apple Maps, but only up to a limited number of additional stops. Unfortunately, none of the two popular mapping platforms allows you to add the desired number of extra stops.

Apple Maps lets you generate a custom route plan but allows a fixed number of additional stops. It initially sets your current location as the starting point that you can change at any point later. In addition, you would have a personalized guide to let you know about unknown places.

Planning a custom road trip with multiple destinations could be a complex process for first-time users but might be easy for frequent users. Let us show you how it can be done on iPhone, iPad, or macOS.

Information shown by Apple Maps is less than what appears on GMaps. But, as far as accuracy is concerned both are on the same page. Despite having less information than Google, Apple Maps is slightly more convenient for new users.

Getting turn-by-turn directions is easier on both navigation apps. You can get the directions to reach the final destination along with added stops. Also, you will get ETA if you have enabled the sharing option.

In case you are finding it incompatible with Apple Maps or Google-powered Maps for adding extra stops, we recommend you use route planner apps like Upper. Using Upper, you are free to add multiple stops and get extra benefits of advanced route planning features. It takes minimal time to set up the route plan and even less than that to share it with others.

Upper not only assists you to plan a multi-stop custom map but also helps you optimize routes quickly. In fact, it always gets you optimized routes no matter how many additional stops you have included. Additionally, it gives you an option to directly import CSV files instead of adding stops manually.

Yes, user-friendly Apple Maps offers the sharing option for its users. Therefore, if you are a pre-planned map, you can easily share it with multiple android devices more than once. Hence, Apple maps are not only compatible with iPhones or iPads but also with android phones.

Neither can you integrate the route planner with Apple Maps nor does it have an in-built route planner. So, if you want to take advantage of route optimization features, you need to look out beyond Apple Maps or Google Maps.

If you want to create a new trip, select My Trips > New Trip from the sidebar menu options. You can pick any one template before you start making an itinerary. In the next step, you can set a date and time for a single route or multiple routes.

We hope you understood everything about the new updates on Apple Maps. If you are still finding it difficult to plan multi-stop routes, we suggest you get a specialized route app. The new Apple Maps would recommend locations like parks, coffee shops, restaurants, gas station, or any other pit stop.

My preferred method of navigation is using a smartphone due to the fact they are so easy and intuitive. I can quickly download detailed maps of any country in the world that are easy to move, zoom in and out, and create points of interest on.

You completely missed the most important part: how to start the navigation feature for the imported KML route. The reason: MAPS.ME cannot do this, and can only do navigation when you specify a start & dest within the app, completely defeating the purpose of doing all that work with the KML.

I want to draw a route between two locations on the map. Something like a tour guide. When the tourist clicks another location, I want to be able to draw a route; as well as, inform about the distance from the current location.

This is a tricky one. There is no way to do that with MapKit: it's easy enough to draw lines when you know the coordinates, but MapKit won't give you access to the roads or other routing information. I'd say you need to call an external API to get your data.

I've been playing with cloudmade.com API. The vector stream server should return what you need, and then you can draw that over your map. However, discrepancies between the Google maps and the OSM maps used by cloudmade may make you want to use cloudmade maps all the way: they have an equivalent to MapKit.

When Apple announced MapKit and all, they also explicitly stated that any navigational applications would be BYOM: Bring Your Own Maps, so any navigation application uses their own set of mapping tools.

(c) dispatch, fleet management, business asset tracking, or similar enterprise applications (the Google Maps API can be used to track assets (such as cars, buses or other vehicles) as long as the tracking application is made available to the public without charge. For example, you may offer a free, public Maps API Implementation that displays real-time public transit or other transportation status information.

Just to clarify, it looks like there are a couple of things being discussed. One is a way to get the vertices of a route and the other is to draw an overlay on the map using those vertices. I know the MapQuest APIs, so I have some links for those below - Google and Bing have equivalents I think.

1) Getting vertices of a route

If you're looking for the new coordinates of a route to draw a route overlay, you can either use a web service call to a routing web service - I'm assuming you're using JavaScript here to display the map. If you're using native code, you can still hit a web service or you can use a native call (that is, the MapQuest iPhone SDK has a native route call in it).

3) Doing it with one call

MapQuest also have some convenience functions to make the route call and draw the line for you - I can't post more than two links! So go to the link above and look for "routing" in the navigation bar on the left.

As per 2019, with iOS12 or iOS13, it's quite easy to draw a route between two points.Heres is a typical code of mine, that draws a route between two POIs, a CLLocation and a CLPlacemark, that you can easily adapt to your context.

Just be sure to send the route to your watch before you lose service or disconnect from your iPhone, and Footpath will keep the route loaded on your watch. When you send the route to your watch, Footpath will automatically download all of the topographic maps it needs.

Footpath can display full topographic maps in the Apple Watch app. Just tap the metrics or navigation screen during a recording to view the map. You can drag your finger to pan around, or you can zoom in and out with the digital crown.

You can swipe vertically between 3 pages of metrics screens. Long press any metric on the screen to customize the metric displayed. You can choose from metrics such as elevation gain, running power, cadence, calories burned, current battery life, etc.

When this happens, Footpath lets the other workout app stay in the foreground, while Footpath provides turn guidance through interactive notifications and audio. You can tap the turn notifications to jump over to Footpath to check the map or your upcoming turns. After you lower your wrist, your workout app will return to the foreground.

Overcast is one of the few third-party apps reported to have issues with Footpath navigation on Apple Watch (both apps work fine together on iPhone). The developer has not implemented audio interruptions correctly in the Apple Watch app, and Overcast does not resume playback after Footpath speaks a turn instruction. To work around this, just use the playback controls on your headphones to resume your podcast. You can also mute the turn instructions in Footpath, and instead use your headphones to pause Overcast when you want Footpath to play a turn instruction at your command.

If you are using a third-party audio app on your iPhone while using navigation in Footpath on your Apple Watch, you may on rare occasions see an issue where the music pauses after Footpath announces a turn instruction. This is due to a system bug that occurs if the Apple Watch is temporarily unable to communicate with your iPhone and your headphones switch from your iPhone to your Apple Watch. If this occurs, simply swipe to the rightmost music controls screen in Footpath to resume the music on your iPhone.
