I am a customer and have used the PowerPoint templates to support several business and training sessions. I contacted SlideModel about modifying some of the people images to reflect more diversity. The images were modified and sent to me in less than an hour. I was impressed and amazed. This allowed me to continue to be productive, meet my deadline, and create an awesome slide presentation.

I have created a layout I want to re-use in my project. I guess I should have done that in the Slide Master view (?), but I didn't know that and just modified a blank slide. Now I want to make that a custom layout (versus a Storyline template, I think--I just want to save a single slide layout) but I can't figure out how to save the current layout. I also thought of trying to copy the whole layout and paste it into a new Slide Master, but I can't figure out how to do that either.

I am new to Storyline 3, and I've been reading a lot of these discussions, and I'm still not certain that I'm using the words "layout" and "template" correctly, so I apologize if I'm not asking this question correctly.

Hi Allison, you are right to be a little confused about the term template and slide layouts. You don't really create a template in Storyline - what you do is create a series of slide layouts that can be reused in different projects.

To use the layout in a project you click the Slides tab in Storyline and select My templates. When you do this, you will see all your custom slide layouts and you can select and import the ones you want to use in the project. (note, I am using 360 but I think this is also the way it works in Storyline 3)

When in the new project, click File >Import >Storyline. Locate the file with the layout you created and select import. This will display all the slides in the project. You can then select and import the ones you want to use.

A PowerPoint template is a pattern or blueprint of a slide or group of slides that you save as a .potx file. Templates can contain layouts, colors, fonts, effects, background styles, and even content.

You can create your own custom templates and store them, reuse them, and share them with others. You can also find hundreds of different types of free templates on templates.office.com and on other partner websites that you can apply to your presentation.

When you create a presentation and then save it as a PowerPoint template (.potx) file, you can share it with your colleagues and reuse it again. To create a template, you'll need to modify a slide master and a set of slide layouts.

To remove an unwanted, default placeholder from a layout, in the slide thumbnail pane, click the slide layout that contains the placeholder, click the border of the placeholder in the presentation window, and then press DELETE.

When you create a template, add any content to the slide master in Slide Master view that you want to protect from being changed by users of your template, such as instructional prompt text, logos, header and footer information, subject matter content, a background, formatting, colors, fonts, and effects.

Users of your template will work in Normal view, guided by the instructional prompts that you added. The template users will replace the instructional prompt text and other placeholder content with data that is specific to their own project or presentation.

To remove any of the built-in slide layouts that accompany the default slide master, in the slide thumbnail pane, right-click each slide layout that you don't want to use, and then click Delete Layout.

To remove an unwanted, default placeholder, in the slide thumbnail pane, click the slide layout that contains the placeholder, click the border of the placeholder in the presentation window, and then press DELETE.

To set the page orientation for all of the slides in your presentation, on the Slide Master tab, in the Page Setup group, click Slide Orientation, and then click either Portrait or Landscape.

Started a new job two weeks ago. I need to do a client presentation next Tuesday. I put something together from my 'past work life'. The content is fine, but when I reviewed it with the team today I was told I need to use the 'company powerpoint template'. I didn't know there was a 'company powerpoint template' for powerpoint presentations.

Regardless, I've been given a powerpoint file which has said template. I'm told 'all I have to do' is 'change the slide master' from the 'template' to my powerpoint file, but I'm not having luck in doing this. I've tried the instructions I've found on Microsoft Support, but they don't seem to work...at least they do not copy 'over' the entire 'master layout' from the 'company powerpoint template".
