Want to prevent unauthorized use of your inactive Facebook ad account? Deactivating it is the solution! This easy-to-follow guide will show you how to deactivate an ad account on Facebook in just a few minutes.
Two Ways to Deactivate:
You can deactivate your ad account through either Ads Manager or Meta Business Suite. We'll cover both methods below.
Before you start:
Make sure you're an admin: You'll need admin access to the ad account you want to deactivate. If it's part of a Business Portfolio, ensure you have full control.
Pay any outstanding dues: Clear any existing balance on the ad account.
Use a desktop computer: You'll need a desktop to deactivate your account through Ads Manager.
Step 1: Access Ads Manager
You can find a shortcut to Ads Manager on the left side of your Facebook homepage after logging in.
Alternatively, go directly to: https://adsmanager.facebook.com/adsmanager
Step 2: Select the Correct Ad Account
Check the ad account ID at the top of the page in Ads Manager. If it's the one you want to deactivate, move to Step 3.
If not, click the triangle icon to open the dropdown menu. Click "See more ad accounts," view all available accounts, and select the one you wish to deactivate.
Step 3: Go to Ad Account Settings
Once you've selected the correct ad account, click the Gear icon on the left panel to access "Ad account settings."
Step 4: Deactivate the Ad Account
In the "Ad account settings" window, find the "Business Payments" section and click "Deactivate Ad Account."
Step 5: Confirm Deactivation
Facebook will ask you to confirm the deactivation.
Read the information about how deactivation will affect your existing ads and campaigns.
Facebook may also ask why you're deactivating your account. You can choose to answer or skip this.
Click "Deactivate Ad Account" in the popup window to finalize the process.
This method is for ad accounts within a Business Portfolio (formerly known as a Business Manager account).
Step 1: Open Meta Business Suite
Access Meta Business Suite from your Facebook Page via the shortcut on the left panel.
Or, go directly to: https://business.facebook.com/
Step 2: Navigate to Settings
In the Meta Business Suite dashboard, click the triangle icon next to your Facebook Page to open the dropdown menu.
Click the Gear icon next to the Business Portfolio containing the ad account you want to deactivate.
Step 3: Go to Ad Accounts
In Settings, hover over the left side of the screen to expand the Settings panel.
Under the "Accounts" section, click "Ad Accounts."
Step 4: Select the Ad Account
Click on the ad account you want to deactivate.
Use the Search bar or Filters to find the correct account if you have multiple ad accounts.
Step 5: Deactivate the Ad Account
An information box will appear next to the selected ad account.
Click "Deactivate" next to the three-dot icon (...).
Confirm your decision by clicking "Deactivate ad account" in the popup after reviewing the information.
Need to reactivate your ad account later? No problem! You can do this at any time through Ads Manager or Meta Business Suite, as long as you have admin rights and the account hasn't been disabled by Facebook due to policy violations or payment issues.
