I recently upgraded to the Galaxy S22 Ultra. I have contacts stored in different locations; Some on the phone, Google, and/or Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. After I installed Outlook, all "New Contacts" I'm adding are defaulting to the Microsoft Exchange storage location. I would like to add all New Contacts to the phone itself - not to Google or Microsoft Exchange.

No, I'm using the native Samsung Contacts app that came with the phone. I've used it on my older Samsung phone, and there was a setting in the app where I was able to designate the "Phone" as the default storage location. But I cannot find it in the current version.

Hi @ChaHo. Give this a try: Open the Contacts app (the orange icon and not from the phone app), tap on the 3 lines to the top left and then on Manage Contacts. At the bottom of this list, you can choose the default storage location. Hope this helps!

Hi CarlH, I know this is a really old post but I was hoping that you might know where this option moved to on the newer crop of phones? I have the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the instructions above work fine up to the point where default storage location is at the bottom of the list under Manage Contacts - it isn't any more!

Close contacts, then use system settings > Apps > Contacts > Storage > Clear data. Open contacts, create a new contact, and it will ask where to save it to. This becomes the new default location and it won't prompt you again unless you clear data again.

I think Samsung has broken things because there used to be a "Default storage location" option under the contacts menu > Manage contacts but it got removed at some point. That menu could be used to set a default location or to ask it to prompt you each time a contact was created.

This creates a linked folder (symlink, not a shortcut). It acts like a normal folder but is actually located in a different place. When the scan software saves into its default location, the files will actually be saved into C:\scans.

By default, the Samsung device asks where to save a new contact each time you create one. You can choose to select the location as the default location or always be asked first. Once the default location is set, it can be changed in the contacts settings.

The procedure to perform this change is more or less the same for all the phones with micro SD card slots. You can use the SD card as the default storage to prevent clogging the space with so many photos. Besides, it is your camera app that lets you perform this function however, you just can expect every camera app to do so as not every manufacturer gives this option.

So, what do you do? Well, there are two paths you can take. The first is to tell Chrome to ask where to save each file. When configuring the browser as such, you can save those downloads anywhere you like (such as to an external SD card). The second option is to change the location of the Chrome downloads directory.

The next method moves the default Downloads folder to the location of your choosing. If you move the Downloads folder to your Google Drive account, you'll always have a copy in the cloud of your downloaded files. Even better, you can access those downloaded files on any web browser associated with your Google account.

In the resulting pop-up, navigate to the folder in Google Drive you want to use for the new Downloads location and click Open. You can leave the ON/OFF slider set to "Ask where to save each file before downloading," and Chrome will still ask but will default to the folder you chose from Google Drive.

Last, changing your location can impact apps that rely on accurate location data. This includes maps, weather apps and other location-dependent services, which could present inaccurate information when location settings are altered. Always consider these factors before deciding to change your location on your Android device.
