My son uses his Nest Hub 2 to read him audio books when he goes to bed. He told me last night that google has been telling him that this feature will not be available after February!?!?

How is he suppose to have any of the audio books we've bought read to him now??

Could you let us know if it doesn't work only when you use voice commands? Does it work if you start the audiobook playback on another device, like your phone or computer, and then play it through your Alexa device picking it from the Connect list?

How Can I Download Free Audio Books

Thank you for the quick response. It seems the problem is with launching via voice commands. Previously, no devices were showing up in my phone device list, but today I can see them. I'm not sure what changed. Unfortunately, I can't select any of the Alexa devices from my phone without a Premium account (which I do not have). I was able to launch the audiobook on an Alexa device from my computer. So why can I launch on Alexa from the computer and not the phone without a Premium account? I own the audiobook, shouldn't that be enough to choose where I play it?

Audiobooks are a new format that is currently being tested. The feature and functionality of Audiobooks will be improved over time. We've passed on your feedback about this connectivity issue with Alexa on to our development teams.

Thanks for the question!

Unfortunately, there isn't such an option so far but I wouldn't give up hope

As @Alex has mentioned, Audiobooks are a new format that is currently being tested. As such, the feature and functionality of Audiobooks is expected to be improved over time.

We're here for you should any further questions come to mind.

Cheers!

I was so excited when I realized you have new books available. I bought Purgatory Ridge and Iron Lake. I am on a waiting list for Boundary Waters and have pre ordered Vermillion. It has been awhile since I looked for any new Cork books and boy, I hit the mother load!!!!! These are a different narrator, hope he is as good as Buck. :>)

Zoey and Sassafras by Asia Citro. This is a delightful series about a little girl and her sidekick cat that cure magical animals with their scientific knowledge. My girls LOVE this one (although currently only the first book is available as an audio book).

The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner. This is the #1 audio book series for preschoolers in our house. My oldest daughter refused to listen to anything else for four solid months and sobbed when she reached the end of the series. My second daughter also developed a massive love for these audio books when she was 4 and 5 and now my third daughter, who is 5, listens to them every single night (Epic! has a great collection of them and you can try it free for a month here!).

26 Fairmont Ave by Tomie dePaola. You probably know Tomie dePaola from his beloved Strega Nona series (and a bazillion other wonderful books), but these short chapter books about his growing up are so sweet and fun. There are four books in the series and each one runs just under an hour.

Zapato Power by Jacqueline Jules. These books run about 30-40 minutes each and they feature Freddie, a little boy who comes home to find a mysterious package that contains shoes that give him super speed.

As always, these are some great suggestions. I'd really like to find a calmer quiet time activity since things have become a bit rowdy in their rooms and this might be the perfect solution (especially for my older daughter). I hope our library offers audio books!

My twin boys are 7, but they have been listening to audio books since they were 3. They listen to them every night before bed and any time we travel. They also LOVE them. We have listened to so many over the past 4 years I can't remember them all, but some of their favorites have been: House at Pooh Corner, Welcome to the Bed & Biscuit, The Mouse & the Motorcycle, Hank the Cowdog series, Rabbit Ears Storybooks, anything by Jim Weiss, Mercy Watson collection, Roscoe Riley series, and the Catwing series (3 books).

You know that moment when you've had a post all planned out and then someone writes the exact same post? Yeah, that just happened to me. I guess it makes sense that we would be thinking along the same lines . . . my four-year-old is also an audiobook junkie. My post isn't going up until March, but I purposely didn't read your thoughts (even though I desperately wanted to!) because I want to just write out my own ideas first (of course). Yay for audiobooks!

I'm a little bit amazed that your daughter will sit for an hour to do ANYTHING. The idea of either of my sons sitting for an hour and coloring while they listen to an audiobook is honestly unbelievable to me. My children have never in their lives colored. They used the crayons as missiles (like for shooting out of a vacuum tube or something), so I had to get rid of them.

Addie is my wild child so her attention span isn't always great (unless she's playing something new on the ipad!) But I think I might start this in the car first and see what she thinks of it. I have a huge box of pictures books + cds from my teaching days but we don't own a darn cd player anymore so I haven't been able to utilize them! Never thought to bring them in the car. Definitely going to give it a try! And then maybe we will need to break down and buy a cd player or upload the picture book css to an ipod or something!

I originally found your site on Pinterest ( the tortellini recipe). I too am a lover of books and now that we have our first grandchild I am carrying on that tradition. I do have to comment about Mrs. Piggle Wiggle- I adored reading all about her as a child, in fact she was who encouraged me to always have an apple and cocoa with a cookie ? . Funny the things we pick up as children!

Right now we are still exploring the world of board books with our Avary, but I can't wait to share in the joys Mrs. Piggle Wiggle.

My son is obsessed with audio books, which is great, but limiting time he spends on other activities. However when he uses his audio book app (Storytel) with the screen off, his screen time is not registered in Kapersky. Can anybody confirm this? Am I missing something?

Android version. The app is running, limits have not expired. He only listens to the audio, so after a few minutes the screen turns off. I tested it today: despite Storytel running for over 30 minutes (screen off, only audio), only 1 minute is registered as device usage.

Well, it turns out sometimes there are some snags in the road of public domain audio books! When choosing your book, if possible, try to also look for a book that has not been done or has not been done often. I was approached in March at the APAC conference by fellow voice actor, audiobook narrator, and industry friend Steve Corona and he shared with me that he had done a public domain book recently. Steve spent a good bit of time on this project, as these manuscripts can be quite long, and he was prevented from posting it as Audible said there were already too many titles like his in existence. Steve and I got together to discuss this and you can find our chat here.

i know you probably think i am lazy for just asking for what someone elses setting are instead or figuring it out my self but i have spent the last 3 days learning the software and renaming my massive music collection so far i am 60,000 files in to my 150,000 file music collection and at this point i just wanted to try to take the easy way out and ask for someone elses setting as i still have at lest 2,000 audio books to do next as well as the remaining 90,000 music files to fix. i guess i was hoping someone would take pity on me.

The Minnesota Braille and Talking Book Library's (MBTBL) audiobook or talking book collection is our largest and most popular. Most titles are produced or obtained by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS). Additional titles are provided by NLS network libraries throughout the country. MBTBL's studio produces talking books using volunteer narrators and text-to-speech. The studio also marks-up commercially produced titles acquired by the NLS.

Registered users can acquire talking books on a USB cartridge via U.S. mail, or they can download titles themselves via NLS's Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD).

To discover recently added talking book titles, the NLS publishes Talking Book Topics (TBT) bimonthly. TBT is available in audio, HTML, PDF, and Braille (BRF files). The audio versions can also be mailed on cartridge or downloaded from BARD.

The NC State University Libraries offers downloadable audio books via NC LIVE. (Note that you'll need to create an individual account on the audio book site in order to download items. Use the SIGN IN or REGISTER links at the audio book site to log in or create an account.) These books are also available in our catalog.

The Wake County Public Library System also provides audio books on CD as well as online downloads of audio books via Overdrive. NCSU students, faculty, and staff with a Wake County or campus address are eligible for a WCPL card.

BARD Express - windows-based software that simplifies searching for, downloading, managing, and transferring BARD audio materials to cartridges

BARD Mobile for iOS devices - access braille and talking books from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

BARD Mobile for Android - access talking books from your Android smartphone or tablet.

BARD Mobile for Fire tablets - access talking books on your Amazon Fire table.
