As a result of our data, we estimate the total number of homes in the Scottsdale area to be 170,696 housing units (Including Urban areas), 108,895 housing units (Not including Urban areas). According to the U.S Census Bureau, there are 115,401 Households as of 2019. There were many assumptions and simplifications our group made that lead us to believe our estimate is not 100% accurate. If we had more time to gather a larger amount of sample grids and count the number of houses in each of the additional grids, we could have gotten a much better estimation. Another source of error was in our estimation for the concentration of each type of neighborhood. If we had made a more accurate estimation of that concentration, we likely would have had a more accurate total estimation. We would have also liked to have a more consistent method for calculating the number of housing units in an urban neighborhood. We do not believe there can be a correct estimation, even if we were able to walk around Scottsdale and count up every house individually, houses are still being built every day. This model does not focus on the future buildings, it only focuses on the buildings that are currently there, Houses will always be getting built and Scottsdale will expand.
Final Algorithm
Number of grids (type) = Total number of grids * %grid type
Number of housing units (type) = Number of grids (type) * Number of housing units per grid (type)
Total number of houses = number of rural houses + number of suburban houses + number of urban houses + number of Mixed-use houses
Number of Homes in Scottsdale Area : 108,895 Houses
