Science Olympiad is a team competition in which students compete in events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering.
Dates TBD / 2:15pm-3:00pm / Weekly or Biweekly / C123
Hough Sci. Oly. meets to have progress checks in preparations, go over updates (e.g. finalized dates, payments, etc.). These meetings are mainly meant for preparation, although closer to the competitions, we'll have a couple more sessions where you can come to practice at school.
Once teams are decided, attending meetings is mandatory, we have to know how you're progressing and ensure you aren't falling behind.
Interest Meeting: September 20, 2024 - 2:20 to 2:40.
The regional competition for Division C (high school) takes place in Hickory on March 8th. The state competition, if we're going, is at NC State University in April. Everyone is required to go to regionals, and all eligible team members can attend States.
Each team member will prepare for 3-4 events throughout the year. You should expect to spend a lot of time at home building, memorizing, researching, studying, or practicing, depending on what event you're preparing for. You'll also be preparing with another person since each event must be done with two people. Communication and collaboration are key to success! Your partner will either be someone you have partnered with in the past or someone that you are paired with based on the events you've signed up for. Typically, the Regional and State competitions will have different requirements (States is harder), so if you are on the Varsity team, be prepared to study extra hard for States.
