Host Web Reviews: Our Review Process[L1]
Your web host plays a pivotal role in your site's success, and failure to choose the right provider can be a recipe for disaster. To help you out, we’ve reviewed numerous web hosting providers, and we regularly retest the services and update our reviews accordingly.
Here is how our review process goes:
First, We Gauge the Provider’s Reputation
We start by visiting the hosting provider’s website to find out more about the trustworthiness of their service. We look at their terms of service and asses any practices that may be a cause for concern for users.
We Sign Up for the Web Hosting Service
After gaining some knowledge about theprovider and the specializations they focus on, we sign up for a premium package. We do not rely on free accounts sincethey lack the quality and features of paid plans. That said, if there are any free plans, we do likewise give them a test run to make sure our readers have all the informationon the table.
When signing up, we pay close attention to the following:
· Subscription plans
· Accepted payment methods
· Ease of signup
We also take into account the amount of time it takes after subscription for the web host to become active. Some take just a matter of minutes, but others can take much longer. So this is important if you are in a hurry to get your site online.
Evaluating the Hosting Service
On signing up, we browse around the web host’s client area and control panel (Plesk, cPanel, Direct Admin, and alike). Here, we mainly focus on functionalities as well as user-friendliness. After all, we all want a service that not onlymeets our hosting needs but also one that is easy to use.
Once our web host account is active and we’ve plugged in our domain, we then move on to the most critical part of our reviews –assessing the features and performance of the service.
While we do focus our reviews on the three main aspects – speed, support, and security, we do not stop there.
Overall, we look at the following:
Uptime Reliability
The internet never sleeps. If Google were to go down, people would simply turn to Bing or some of its other competitors. The same goes for your website. Downtimes can not onlyresult in revenue losses butalso can ruin your brand image.
That’s why uptime reliability is one of the things we look at. We do so by monitoring our newly hosted website for an extended period through Pingdom. We also look at how the provider handles emergency maintenance and threats like DDoS attacks.
[L1]I feel we can provide further technical details to command authority & expertise in the host review niche. This is particularly applicable in areas such as uptime, speed, reliability – use of further technical metrics will be good.
