Humboldt's ideal of the unity of research and teaching has become a model for universities all over the world. Central to this model is the idea of research-oriented teaching and the transfer of knowledge based on research. The Albrecht Daniel Thaer-Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture Sciences is dedicated to this principle and cooperates closely with research centres. Next to a broad range of interdisciplinary courses, it focuses mainly on “Food Quality Management” and “Urban Horticulture”.
About 1.600 students are currently enrolled at Albrecht Daniel Thaer-Institute of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences at the Faculty of Life Sciences. It is situated on two locations: The Campus Mitte at the city centre and the green Campus Dahlem. The Thaer-Institute is involved in several research cooperations, including patner universities and research centres. It is also member of the German Research Alliance (DAFA).

“Study plan of International Horticultural Science
The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is located in one of the most fascinating European regions, at the crossroads between the German-speaking and Italian economies and cultures. Among its main features are trilingualism in teaching, a high level of internationalisation as well as an ideal study environment. The International Master in Horticultural Science (IMaHS) is a joint initiative with the University of Bologna. The third semester at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, offered by the Faculty of Science and Technology, covers the sustainable management of fruit trees and grapevines and the supply chain management of horticultural products. Students´ training takes advantage from the collaboration with the strong fruit and wine companies of South Tyrol (worldwide recognized leading district for apple and wine production) as well as with other local and international research institutions. The research focuses on developing production systems and novel technologies that increase yields and fruit/wine quality, while reducing the use of not-renewable resources, the environmental pollution and the production costs.

Main research focus of the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna are renewable resources. Thereby importance is attached to various fields of activity to contribute to the protection of these fundamentals of life for future generations. Principle basics for the modern education are focal points in research of practical relevance and ecological interest, internationality and multidisciplinarity. Curriculum for the Master´s Programme
The MATE has been established on the 1st of February 2021 from the former Szent István University and 11 research units of the former National Centre of Agricultural Innovation. It is the immediate and full right successor of the former institutions. The program “Master of Horticultural Engineering” now runs by the coordination of Institute of Horticultural Sciences at Buda Campus. We have bilateral agreements on double degree education with Alma Mater Studiorum-Universitá di Bologna, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, BOKU Vienna and Humboldt University in Berlin. In these cases the equivalent courses are part of the agreement.
MATE is now the biggest agricultural university in Hungary and provides a high quality education at different levels. Horticultural education has a 160 years old tradition at the Buda Campus situated in the center of the city Budapest.
