No students will be allowed to tryout after March 27
After day one, per the coaches discretion, players may be eligible to move between V and JV. Moving up to varsity practices does not guarantee a spot on the varsity team, rather it’s a chance for coaches to examine the players skills and success compared to other players.
Cuts may be made and is dependent on the total number of applicants. To create the best possible experience for athletes, the goal is to carry about 30 players on the Varsity and JV combined (15 per team).
This year we again are allowing 7th and 8th graders to try out for the JV (and / or varsity). It is extremely rare for 7/8th graders to make the varsity level. For 7th and 8th graders to try out they must get an exemption from the school to go thru the registration process. First the players must justify that they are indeed on a competitive track and currently can compete at least at the JV level. The JV is NOT a training program to get the student to the JV level, it is a competitive program where JV level players compete. The JV is not for new players or beginners. To apply you must contact the Athletic Department and Coach Aasen or Coach Venkat to start the process.
The Edina tennis program is one of the top programs in the state of MN. The coaches have an expectation that players have an appropriate level of tennis skill. Due to that expectation, beginners are not allowed on the Junior Varsity team.
