Once, it was a time when only professors would deal with research, but the scenery has dramatically changed over time. It means now students are also coming to research. But why? The answer is mainly opportunities.
First of all, it's an opportunity to obtain a higher degree from a foreign institution, which gives money, fame, and even a bright future. It's been recently seen that students from Bangladesh flying to Europe, the USA, Canada, or any other country. It's also been observed that those who have reached a foreign country from Bangladesh for a higher degree, like an MS, MSS, or MSc, have also been offered a PhD. As they get the PhD opportunity, they're also offered a monthly salary of $1500–$2000. There are also other opportunities, like travel allowance and health allowance. Another thing is that they simultaneously earn fame or reputation. I know a person, Md. Zakaria, known as Cute Zakaria, an associate professor of the Communication and Journalism department at the University of Chittagong.
It is August 2022 since he flies to the US for his PhD, and within a few months, he has the opportunity to display his research work in Washington, DC. However, he has some publications in top international journals too. So, his name is placed in reputed journals. For his work, he receives not only a health allowance but also a travel allowance. Moreover, he has probably gotten a teaching assistantship. Not everybody gets it until he is qualified. He will be endowed with Doctor Md. Zakaria after the completion of his PhD, which makes him a highly valuable person in the society he belongs to.
Doing research means innovating an idea, falsifying a statement, or proving a theory. Now one question may arise: What hires a student? The easy answers are mainly research publications, past academic excellence, and cocurricular activities. These help hire them into foreign education institutions. There are a couple of reasons behind it: These measure of a person's talent, authenticate the person's hard work. Knowing that they hire them and offer them fully-funded scholarships. It benefits a person when s/he publishes an article (a research report or paper), and it denotes his analytical writing skill, which goes to an advanced level, owns a topic-based knowledge that gets deeper. And it reflects his creativity, too. Moreover, through research, he or she has a good sense of a particular community or group as he analyzes the collected data. Most importantly, he is familiarized with the new computer technologies. Overall, a researcher is an asset for the world.
