This sung-through musical (currently in development) forces Shakespeare's characters to confront 21st century problems. With Simon embroiled in a battle over medical research ethics, will twenty-something Imogene be forced to take over his company instead of pursuing her own path as a violinist? Will Guy and Arvin be happy with their restaurant, or are changes in store for them as well? Just go and see! This modern adaptation leans further into the gender-bending of Shakespeare's text by including some gender-swapped characters and same-sex relationships.

The opening theme originated from one of my early attempts to leave "pretty" behind in favor of "interesting" by intentionally building in melodic dissonance. The theme is developed through the A section in an A B A' structure. In the B section, I worked backwards from the development to select individual notes for the initial theme, then re-barred them in a 6/8-based mixed meter for the violin, as the piano continues in 4/4. Mixing and matching color and texture also figures strongly into this work. Laura Barceló's masterful performance on violin enhances the lyricism of the legato sections and makes the contrasts even more striking.

I have composed works for various voice types and instruments, including choir, a song cycle for high voice, a trio for honor society award winners (piano, bass voice, and cello), a brass quintet, trumpet and piano, violin and piano, alto saxophone and marimba, and percussion ensemble.
