Counseling Program
The counseling program at Hope Elementary School follows the RTI (Response To Intervention) Model with a multi-tiered approach to student services.
TIER 1
School Wide Initiatives
Classroom Lessons
I visit each classroom once a month and deliver lessons that fall within the social/emotional, academic, and career domains.
Here are the topics covered during the current school year.
Tier 2
Small Group Counseling
Small groups are offered to students who are facing similar circumstances or who have growth areas in common. Groups generally consist of 4-6 students and meet for 6-8 weeks. Most of these groups take place during lunch time. Topics vary based on student needs, but some topics covered include:
Social Skills
Friendship
Self-Regulation
Self-Esteem
New Student
Tier 3
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is available upon student request and/or based upon referrals from caregivers and school staff. The primary model of counseling utilized is called Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC). SFBC is a goal-oriented approach where we focus on student strengths and previous successes while also building and practicing new skills. Individual counseling in the school setting is short term in nature. School counselors do not offer long term counseling or therapy. Students in need of these services will be referred to local mental health professionals.
