HopCount is designed as a privacy-first network diagnostic tool that requires no account creation, login credentials, email verification, or identity registration of any kind. Users can access all diagnostic features immediately after installation without onboarding steps or profiling.
All network activity occurs strictly when the user initiates a diagnostic test targeting a destination of their choice. These operations may include ICMP ping, TCP connections, DNS resolution, HTTP requests, WHOIS queries, and lookups to public IP intelligence services for ASN and reputation insights. Every request is sent directly from the user’s device to the specified endpoint without routing through Shunyata-operated servers. No personal data, device fingerprints, or tracking tokens are ever attached to these requests. The application does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to Shunyata or third parties. It contains no analytics tools, advertising SDKs, tracking mechanisms, crash reporting systems, or telemetry. There are no background data transmissions, no device identifiers recorded, and no monitoring of user behavior or usage patterns. All results, session logs, monitoring configurations, and preferences are securely stored within the app’s local sandbox and remain entirely on the device, with no cloud sync, backup, or remote storage.
The application only requests permissions necessary for its core functionality. Internet access is required for diagnostics, network state access helps determine connectivity, and notifications are optional for user-configured alerts like uptime or SSL expiry. Foreground service and boot permissions are used solely for background monitoring if enabled. No access is requested for sensitive data such as contacts, location, camera, microphone, or files. Since no personal data is processed, there are no retention policies, third-party processors, or data-sharing practices. All stored data can be permanently removed by clearing app data or uninstalling the app. Any future changes involving additional data handling will be transparently disclosed through updates to this policy.
