First, what's new for 9th graders in 2025 - 2026 ?
NEW: Early College Education Pathway
Starting next school year Hoover is offering an Early College Education Pathway for incoming 9th graders!
This pathway will:
Help you get a Head Start on College: Students can earn college credits while still in high school, potentially reducing the time and cost needed to complete a college degree.
Provide Academic Rigor: The program provides a more challenging academic environment, helping students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Allow for Career Exploration: You will have the opportunity to explore various jobs within the field of education, from teaching, counseling, administration, etc. before committing to a college major.
Provide a Supportive Environment with guidance from both high school and college staff; you will receive the support they need to succeed in their courses.
Help ensure a Smooth Transition: The pathway can help you transition more smoothly from high school to college by familiarizing you with college-level coursework and expectations.
Lead to Cost Savings: By earning college credits early, you and your families can save on tuition and other college-related expenses.

3-Dimensional Design
3-D Design is a beginning art class where you explore different art media and supplies. Draw, paint and sculpt with hands on projects. Work in groups and individually to express yourself. Solve art problems and develop your creativity while applying the principles of design.
American Sign Language I & II
Do you want to learn how to communicate in a unique language that will open up doors to you in the future?
Sign up for American Sign Language to learn how to communicate with the Deaf and learn to respect differences in cultures through this course.
AP Computer Science Principles
Ready to explore the world of technology? Enroll in AP Computer Science Principles to learn how computers and the internet work, while gaining valuable skills in coding that open doors to exciting careers in software engineering, cybersecurity, data science, and more! No prior coding experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and problem-solving skills!
AP Human Geography
THIS IS THE ONLY AP CLASS THAT FRESHMAN CAN TAKE! DON'T MISS OUT!
AP Human Geography offers a deep understanding of how people, places, and environments interact, helping you make sense of the world around you. It sharpens critical thinking skills and helps you analyze global issues such as migration, urbanization, and cultural differences.
Taking this course also prepares you for college-level coursework and can earn you college credit, giving you an academic advantage.
AP Psychology
Do you ever wonder what would drive a woman to drown her five children in a bathtub?
Do you ever wonder what happens to your brain during drug induced altered states of consciousness?

Well then psychology may be the right fit for you.
If you prefer to learn at a more accelerated, rigorous pace, and would like the chance to earn college credit, then AP Psychology should be your elective choice.
Art I
Are you up for a challenge? Learn the foundational knowledge and develop your skills for various forms of Fine Art - from drawing and painting to sculpture and printmaking you will grow in learning, as artists do, through collaboration, presentations, connection, reflection, experimentation, and creation! This class will provide you the opportunity to push yourself and grow as a person, as a professional, and as an artist!
Art II
Continue your art experience with this class that extends what you learned in Art 1 or 3-D Design. Work with traditional media such as drawing, painting, sculpting and ceramics. Go deeper into design and personal expression in this class.
Beginning Band
Never got a chance to learn how to play an instrument? Join Beginning band to learn the instrument you want without judgement. You get to meet new students, and you get personal attention on your chosen instrument.
Cinematography

Ever wondered how movies and videos come to life? In our cinematography class, you'll get hands-on experience with cameras, lighting, and editing techniques, all while learning how to create stunning visuals. Heroes, monsters, dreams, and legends: drawing and storytelling come together in this digital media class. Construction Technology I

Do you have a passion for building things? Do you want to learn a trade that could earn you lots of money in the future? Consider signing up for construction! Construction Technology I is a yearlong course where students discover and develop their skills in the craft and trade of Carpentry.
Cross-Age PE
Cross-Age Physical Education offers the high school student an opportunity to study the child development of the elementary school-age student, the experience of sharing their love of physical education/activity/fitness, and assist the Elementary Teacher in preparing the Elementary Student for the California Physical Fitness Testing.
Dance PE

Digital Photography I
(9th - 11th)
Digital Photography (www.digitalphoto101.com) is an introductory course designed for students to learn the fundamentals of photography using digital cameras and editing software. Students will explore composition, lighting, and camera settings while developing their creative and technical skills through hands-on projects. By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio of their best work and a strong foundation in digital photography techniques.
Digital Photography II
(11th - 12th)
Digital Photography 2 (www.Digitalphoto2.com) builds on the fundamentals learned in Digital Photography 1, challenging students to refine their technical skills and develop a personal artistic style. Students will explore advanced camera settings, lighting techniques, and photo editing while working on creative and commercial photography projects. Through portfolio development and critique sessions, they will gain a deeper understanding of composition, storytelling, and professional photography practices.
Ethnic Studies
This will be by far one of your most interesting classes during the day!!
Learn about the experiences and perspectives of people of color (African American, Asian American, Chicanx-Latinx, and Native American and Indigenous people) within and beyond the United states.
This course will help you navigate the world that we live in!

Forensic Science
(11th)
Forensic Science gives the student’s a behind the scenes look at HOW crimes are solved. Students learn the SCIENCE behind the process to prove guilt or innocence by using text, hands on, and hearing from the experts. The real life CSI experience.
History of Public Safety
(9th - 10th)
For incoming freshmen, this course give you an overview on both a career in the fire service as well as a career in Pubic Service on the law enforcement and corrections side. You will learn about how the fire service came to be, the equipment used, the requirements for a career in this field, and all the various job opportunities. You’ll also learn about the criminal justice system, career, opportunities, and Probation, crime, scene, investigation, law-enforcement, corrections, and many more. This is a great class for those of you that think you might want to go into a career in public service and will lead.
History of Rock & Roll
What the heck Beyonce won for Best Country Album!? How? The history of rock & roll is a fascinating journey through music. Explaining the transformations of the music industry and culture. How has rock & roll impacted you? Learn more in this class.
Hmong I, II, & III
Hmong 1, 2, and 3 are opportunities for students to learn about Hmong language and culture. Students will attend cultural celebrations, sample traditional Hmong foods, and learn Hmong history. Come to experience a different culture, eat some traditional Hmong foods, and speak a new language.
Improvisation
The Improvisation/ Playwriting class combines the best of both worlds-creativity and spontaneity! The class also helps you think outside the box, embrace unpredictability, and refine your ability to collaborate with others. Whether you're performing spontaneous scenes or writing your own plays, you'll develop unique skills in storytelling, quick thinking, and character development. Join us for a fun, interactive experience that will boost your confidence and unleash your imagination both on and off the stage!
Intro to Business

Jazz Band
Let the rhythm move you! Our jazz band is all about capturing the magic of music. With vibrant performances and smooth tunes, we promise a class full of energy and joy!
Marching Band
YOU GET PE CREDIT!!! Be a part of the band program! We play for football games, we march, compete in parades, and we perform for festivals and concerts and travel. We also have guard, letter line and drumline that is a part of the program!
Men's Alliance
Men's Alliance is a course where you learn real life skills such as being an employee, a good student, a productive adult, as well as a family man. We have job opportunities for you to have part-time work as well as learn topics such as finances, driving, automotive maintenance, relationships, and so much more.
Multimedia
If you are interested in learning all about ways to incorporate art and technology, Multimedia class at Hoover High is for you. Explore Photoshop, Photography, 3D printing, Videography and more! Learn how to use these with real life applications that will help you now and in your future education, vocations, and life!
PE for Integrated Supports
PE for Integrated Sports is a great way to be involved in multiple sports with our students that need extra support. You will be peer helpers and coaches to our Special Olympics teams as we compete in various sports throughout the year. This is a great experience and a great thing to put on a resume or college application.
Personal Finance
This personal finance course will teach you important money skills to help you in everyday life. You’ll learn how to budget, save, invest, use credit wisely, and make smart financial choices. By the end, you'll feel more confident managing your money and planning for your future.
Principles of Leadership
In Leadership, we focus on building relationships with staff and students, creating activities and events, and finding ways for all kids to feel included on campus. You will help with lunch, after school events, morning set ups, sports games, and so much more. Our job is to be the spirit and fun of the school!
Public Service Leadership
(12th)
Public service leadership is a great class for the senior, who is getting ready for college or the real world with a career. We teach you job skills, résumé building, and it is the final class in the public service pathway where you receive college credit for criminology. It is a great way to get a jumpstart on your peers whether you plan on working right out of high school or going to college.

Get college credit through the World Language Department by taking this class.
Spanish I
Spanish 1, in this course students will apply and develop basic skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening in Spanish. Along with developing an appreciation for the cultures in some of the countries where Spanish is spoken.
Spanish II
In this class, students will continue to develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills for the real world application. Cultural traditions will also be embedded in the skills acquired in this class.
Spanish III
SPANISH III: Level up your Spanish skills with real-world conversations, fun cultural projects, and interactive activities. Get ready to express yourself with confidence while exploring customs and traditions from Spanish-speaking countries!
Spanish IVH
Spanish IVH: Go beyond the basics and take your Spanish to the next level. This class focuses on fluency, culture, and advanced conversations through real-world applications to help you communicate with confidence in any setting!
Spanish Native Speakers I & II
Spanish Native Speaker I:Celebrate your heritage and strengthen your Spanish in a class designed just for native speakers! Improve your reading and writing skills, expand your vocabulary, and explore the rich diversity of the Spanish-speaking world.
String Ensemble Orchestra
Dive into the magic of music with our incredible orchestra! If you played a string instrument in junior high, this is the place to be! You get elective credit and get to travel to perform!
Teacher Academy
(11th - 12th)
Key Focus Areas of Teacher Academy Class
Teacher Academy provides hands-on classroom experience, developing essential teaching skills that can lead to real job opportunities in education.
It also fosters confidence and lifelong skills such as communication, organization, and time management, preparing students for success in any career.
Teaching remains a valuable profession that, at least in the near future, cannot be replaced by AI, as it requires working with children and demonstrating empathy.
Theater I - IV
Join the world of drama, creativity, and excitement in our theatre class! You'll dive into acting, stage design, playwriting and the art of improvisation. It's the perfect place to challenge yourself, build confidence, develop new skills, and make memories you’ll never forget!
Videography
(11th)
Videography 1 (www.hoovervideography.com) is an introductory course that teaches students the basics of video production, storytelling, and broadcast media. Students will learn how to operate cameras, capture quality audio, and edit footage using industry-standard software to create engaging video content. Through hands-on projects and media broadcast production, students will develop the skills needed for filmmaking, news reporting, and digital storytelling.
Women's Alliance
Women's Alliance is a support class for students who need help with academics and would like to be more involved in school. The course focuses on SEL skills, organization and preparation for work experience. This is a class for students who need guidance and direction to be their BEST self!
Yearbook (Advanced Digital Photography & Marketing)
Yearbook (Advanced Digital Photography and Marketing) (www.hooveryearbook.com) is an intermediate course where students learn the fundamentals of desktop publishing and marketing as well as to refine technical photography skills in order to create a professional-quality yearbook. Students will develop skills in design layout, photo composition, and storytelling while collaborating to capture memorable moments from the school year. Through hands-on projects and marketing campaigns, they will gain experience in publishing, teamwork, and promoting the yearbook to the school community.

Marine Biology
In Marine Biology, students will explore the diverse ecosystems of the ocean, including coral reefs, deep-sea trenches, and coastal habitats. They will study marine organisms, from microscopic plankton to large whales, and learn about their adaptations and roles in the environment. The course will also cover the impact of human activity on marine life, such as pollution and climate change.
Oceanography
In Oceanography, students will study of the ocean and its various components, including physical, chemical, biological, and geological processes. Topics covered will include ocean currents, wave dynamics, and climate interactions, as well as the composition and properties of seawater. Students will explore marine ecosystems, oceanic life, and the impact of human activities on marine environments.
Zoology
In Zoology, we learn about all kinds of animals! Whether they live in the ocean or on land, cute pets or creepy worms, huge or microscopic, we explore the diversity of animal life and what it means to be alive. We do hands-on labs in almost every unit, often with live or dead animals, and use microscopes to see things you can’t see with the human eye alone. From the animals you already know, to those you’ve never heard of, we learn how to classify animals and discover how interesting and bizarre they can be!
AP Biology
AP Biology is an in-depth, fast-paced course that explores the science of life, from tiny cells to entire ecosystems. You’ll dive into exciting topics like genetics, evolution, cellular processes, ecology, and the human body—uncovering the mechanisms that make life possible.
This course emphasizes hands-on labs, data analysis, and scientific reasoning, helping you think and work like a real biologist. Whether you’re fascinated by DNA, curious about how organisms evolve, or eager to understand the inner workings of life, AP Bio will challenge and inspire you.
