Yes. The option to renew appears two days before the end of the borrowing period (21 days for eBooks, audiobooks, and comics, 72 hours for movies and television, and 7 days for music). A button will appear on the title screen with the option to renew the title. At this time, you can only use the renewal feature at hoopladigital.com. Please note that a renewal is the same as a new borrow, so a renewed title will count against your monthly limit (30 per month).

Hoopla (stylized as hoopla) is a web and mobile (Android/iOS) library media streaming platform launched in 2010 for audio books, comics, e-books, movies, music, and TV. Patrons of a library that supports Hoopla have access to its collection of digital media.

The Hoopla Digital collection is very large with a changing selection of hundreds of thousands of content titles. Hoopla is different from other digital platforms because Smyrna Library does not own or lease the titles in this collection. Hoopla provides our users access to all the content, then Smyrna Library is charged for each item our customer actually checks out.

All items are available at any time - there are no waiting lists! Library cardholders will be allowed to borrow up to 12 items every month. It doesn't matter how many of each type of item you have. You can check out any combination of movies, eBooks, audiobooks, comics, and music, but when you have checked out 12 items you are done for the month. You will get 12 more checkouts on the first of each month. You can borrow titles though the hoopla digital mobile app or website by browsing all available content. Once you select a title you can click on the Borrow button on the title details page. Once a title is borrowed, it will be added to your My Titles menu. From there, you can play or view the title on your mobile device or PC/Mac.

There are apps for both Android and IOS phones and tablets. If you are using the app you are able to stream or download a temporary copy of the items you have checked out for viewing offline. The hoopla digital mobile app can be found in the Google Play store on your Android device, and the Amazon Appstore on your Kindle Fire HDX tablet. Search for "hoopla digital" to find and download the app.

The number of Hoopla checkouts each month may vary depending on usage. The library pays for each Hoopla checkout, and the library has a yearly budgeted amount for digital items. Please note as of July 2020, due to the increasing popularity of Hoopla, the individual checkout limit will be reset to 4 per month.

You can have separate hoopla accounts for each of the library cards in your family. Each account must have a unique email address associated with it. If you have a library card with another library system that also offers hoopla, you can create another account with that library system, but you will also need a unique email address for such an account.

The hoopla streaming media service provides eBooks and eAudiobooks (as well as streaming movies, TV episodes, music albums and eComics) which are ALWAYS available. OverDrive offers eBooks and eAudiobooks which are licensed for use by one borrower at a time.

With hoopla, all media can be streamed without downloading as long as you have an internet connection. If you would like to use your borrow on your mobile device while in airplane mode, you can first download the item to the hoopla app by clicking on the title and then clicking on "Download to your device."
