Hoonkyung Lee received his Ph.D. in physics from Seoul National University in 2008. He worked at UC Berkeley & Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Advisor: Prof. Marvin L. Cohen & Prof. Steven G. Louie, 2008-2010) and at Rice University (Advisor: Prof. Boris I. Yakobson, 2010-2012) as a postdoctoral researcher. After that, he joined Konkuk University, Seoul, Korea as a faculty in 2012.

Theoretical and computational condensed matter physics, quantum materials, carbon correlated quantum materials, materials design, hydrogen storage, lithium-ion batteries, device materials, datamining of materials for energy applications

The Hoonkyung group studies the physics of materials using theoretical and computational methods like DFT and GW, particularly nanomaterials for energy storage and catalyst applications. Professor Hoonkyung studied design of 2D materials based carbon materials which are graphene and graphyne, and biphenylene and so on to explore exotic quantum properties of materials such as quantum topology and Weyl semimetals for development of novel quantum device and computers. In addition, he studied their materials for various applications for energy storage and production for clean and renewable energy.
