Hoofpicks is a Horse Project Club for Williamson County 4H.
Hoofpicks 4-H is a FUN learning program for boys and girls ages 8-18. It helps youth develop their skills and talents to the fullest. 4-H youth actively participate in activities, events and projects that develop and strengthen life skills. You do not have to own or know anything about horses to join the club, we welcome all skills!
Our horse project has a mission to serve a wide variety of needs among the youth of our county. Not only do we provide the opportunity for youth who are horse / equine enthusiasts to meet and socialize in activities that are designed to enhance their skills and understanding of horse-related topics, but the club also recognizes the needs of others in the community and provides opportunities for our members to help enhance the quality of life for many in Williamson County.
We are a very active club with a membership that completes a horse project (with or without a horse) and several of our members complete additional projects throughout the year to include leadership, public speaking, photography, and community service. The club meets every month on the third Sunday afternoon of the month for a business meeting and educational program. We alternate our meeting locations and have met at local training facilities and animal rescue programs in the past.
We also plan a few trail rides throughout the year and are making plans for some group lessons for all members, including opportunities for members with or without a horse. Non-mounted activities include Horse Quiz Bowl and Hippology study groups which meet to study equine knowledge and compete in county contests as they are available, as well as other hands-on activities related to horses and horse care. We also have members that participate in the Williamson County Horse Judging Team and they compete at stock shows.
4-H is open to everyone. Youth can get involved in 4-H through school clubs, community clubs, special interest groups, after school programs, camps and as individual 4-H members. Each county in Texas has unique programs which are tailored to meet local community needs.
4-H is more than just a club or a single activity--4-H is young people helping others and getting ready for the future.
So make the best better with 4-H!
