Frequently Asked Questions
General Frequently Asked Questions
How do you decide who gets to go?
WWII veterans and Korean War veterans have top priority. Other veterans are flown on a “first to register - first to fly” basis, depending on seat availability. We also prioritize terminally ill veterans from any generation for the next available flight.
How much does it cost? How much money do I need to bring?
The cost is free for WWII, Korea, and terminally ill veterans. You do not need to bring any money unless you intend to purchase souvenirs. The guardian fee may change due to airfare costs, but it will be approximately $1,400. This fee includes all expenses from the time we first meet until we return to Oregon.
Can I make a donation to Honor Flight?
Honor Flight gratefully accepts donations from anyone except WWII veterans. We feel that WWII veterans have given enough. This is our way of saying thank you. If after your trip you would like to support other veterans, we will consider your donation.

Guardian Frequently Asked Questions
Who can be a guardian?
Due to the age and physical conditions of some of our veterans, we encourage a family member to accompany them. We usually only accept next generation (or more) family members, with a minimum age of 18. Guardians pay their own expenses. Each veteran does not necessarily have to have a “personal” guardian. We will discuss the veteran’s needs when they are scheduled for their trip and make a determination at that time.
Which guardian applicants are most qualified?
Medically trained individuals, active duty military personnel, and guardians who have previously participated in a flight are given top priority. The applicants physically capable of assisting the veterans are also a top priority.
Can my son, daughter, grandchild, etc., go as a guardian?
Yes, we encourage family members to accompany veterans. We usually accept next generation (or more) family members, with a minimum age of 18. Guardians pay their own expenses through a tax deductible donation to Honor Flight of Oregon.
What are the responsibilities of a guardian?
It is your duty to make the most of the Honor Flight experience for the Veteran you are traveling with. This may mean pushing a wheelchair, helping to make connections with other Veterans on the flight and taking photos.
How much will it cost to be a guardian?
Cost varies depending on the cost of airplane tickets and lodging. A typical Guardian pays between $1,200 and $1,500.
What training is provided for guardians?
The night before the trip there will be a meeting for Guardians and Veterans that provides information on expectations, roles and responsibilities.
Can I request to be paired with a specific veteran?
Of course! If the Veteran wishes you to be their Guardian than you may request to be paired with them.
