Ph.D. Students

Luis Segura, originally from Ecuador, is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in the Industrial and Systems Engineering department. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas-ESPE, Ecuador; and a master's degree in manufacturing systems from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, USA, as 2010 Fulbright Scholar. In 2013, he worked in the automotive systems design program at the Technical University of Eindhoven (TUe), Netherlands. From 2014 to 2018, he has been a faculty member of the mechanical engineering department at ESPE.

His research interests lie in the integration of physical and machine learning models to optimize processes and product quality in advanced manufacturing. He enjoys staying with his family, playing soccer, and working out.

Current Occupation: Assistant Professor, Industrial Engineering, University of Louisville

Sahand Hajifar is pursuing his Ph.D. in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at University at Buffalo since Fall 2018. He received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology in 2015 and a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in 2017.

His research interests include data analytics, signal processing, statistical quality control and their applications in manufacturing, ergonomics and healthcare. He enjoys sports, especially soccer and swimming, literature and watching series.

Current Occupation: Data Scientist, Nielsen Holdings Inc.

Zebin Li started his Ph.D. in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at University at Buffalo from Fall 2019. He received his bachelor’s degree in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering from Sichuan University in 2016, and his master’s degree in Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics from Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2019.

His research mainly focuses on data analysis and its application in material fabrication and energy systems. He likes playing basketball, listening to music and reading.

Setareh Kazemi Kheiri joined the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at University at Buffalo as a Ph.D. student in Fall 2021. Setareh earned her master’s and bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in 2017 and Khajeh Nasir Toosi University of Technology in 2015, Tehran, Iran, respectively. Prior to joining University at Buffalo, she gained working experiences in various industries such as banking, FMCG, and management consultancy.

She is interested in developing and applying data analytic models in enhancing production and healthcare systems. Setareh is passionate about sustainable development and she enjoys art, literature, playing the piano, and learning new languages.

Wuyang Chen joined the College of Engineering at the University of Georgia as a Ph.D. student in 2023. He attained his bachelor's degree in Traffic Engineering from Changsha University of Science & Technology in 2017 and completed his master’s degree in industrial engineering at the University at Buffalo in 2023. He has rich working experience in road design, traffic planning, and international large-scale project management.

His research interests include the development of data analysis models and their application to enhance additive manufacturing systems. I enjoy novels, music, sports, and playing video games.

Chenyu Xu joined the Ph.D. program in Engineering at the University of Georgia in 2023. Prior to that, she received her BE in Computer Science and Technology from Wuhan University of Technology in 2019, and MS in Computer Science and Engineering from University at Buffalo in 2022.

Her research interest is developing control systems with embedded data analytic models for additive manufacturing. She enjoys baking, swimming and traveling.
