Outreach (K-12)

I have been coaching chess in the East Lansing and Okemos communities.

So far, I have been coaching a preschooler (for 16 months) and a kindergartener (for 10 months).

Current progress:

  • Openings (Italian Game, Ruy Lopez, Queen's Gambit Declined, King's Indian Defense, Sicilian Dragon, French Defense, Caro-Kann, Queen's Gambit Accepted)

  • Tactics (mate in 1, mate in 2, double attack, pin, discover attack)

  • Endgame (checkmate with Queen/Rook/two Bishops)

  • Analyzed about 10 games by world champions (Steinitz, Lasker, Capablanca)

  • Algebraic notations and rules for tournaments
