CURRENT COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
CURRENT COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
Every year, the HLRC comes together to support Honeoye School. HLRC makes it a priority to attend the Welcome Back Bash in partnership with the Honeoye Central School District. This allows us to directly interact with our school community, share about ourselves with our families, and provide "treasure boxes" for kids in our community. Treasure boxes have been a long carried traditional school year facet. Each year this goal increases, and this year we were able to make over 40 treasure boxes to give out. Special shout out to the Hamele family for the homebase location to get these boxes put together! Any extras are part of a closet that is available to students UPK through 12th grade to replenish or for new families that might come into the school district mid-year.
Each spring we look forward to celebrating Earth Day with the school by distributing trees to the UPK through 5th Graders. The Middle School & High School C.O.R.A.L. program partners with us to bag and tag these to give out.
HCS Fifth Grade teachers have asked for support in their D.A.R.E. Program celebrations in June. We help with the funds for their t-shirts each spring and celebrate the great choices they will make in Middle School and beyond!
Each month, teachers nominate students who show qualities of leadership, commitment, and hard work. They are recognized with a certificate and invited to a Rotary dinner meeting to be recognized formally by all HLRC members.
Over the summer, HLRC partners with the Honeoye Public Library to host a wide variety of bands. Some of the bands hosted the summer of 2023 were John Dady & Friends, Pittsford FD Band, Brothers Blue, Honeoye Lake Community Band, Paulsen, Chaapel & Friends, Warren Paul, and Michael Callahan/Elvis. These events take place at the Gazebo unless weather requires a move to the HCS Auditorium. Our key Rotarians who set this all in motion are Marilyn Passer, Linda Evenski, Gary Hubble, and Brent Ames.
PAST COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS & MANY REOCCURING YEARLY EVENTS
With the generosity of time, Gary Hubble and Dick Hamele worked to facilitate the building of the kiosks for the Sandy Bottom Trail. Many hands made for quick work, as this was a much needed and appreciated part to encourage use and provide information on both ends of the trail. In July of 2020, the kiosks were officially dedicated in honor of Tom Gendreau and Buzz Geartz.
For two years now, led by Sandy Hubble, the Rotarians have provided a "Teddy Bear Tree" for the primary students at Honeoye Elementary to bring some joy and holiday spirit to the building in December.
At the laundromat, HLRC stocks a childrens and adult bookshelf. Kids who see their parents read are likely to model that behavior. Reach out if you have new or gently used books to share!
In the past the HLRC worked with the School District to provide non-perishable foods for families over vacations and summer break. The HLRC "passed the baton" on to the Honeoye PTA Foodlink partnership and now offers as needed support and monetary donations to the HCS Food Pantry as well as the local Honeoye Food Pantry.
In the Spring of 2017, the tennis courts located on the Honeoye School grounds, needed refinishing. The HLRC funded the building of the courts years prior, committed to maintaining them, and made the refinishing possible. The tennis courts are open for public for use, and the Tennis teams actively use them in season.
Every Halloween season brings fun and a good time. This year the HLRC was represented at the Honeoye Central School District Trunk or Treat in partnership with the PTA.
Working with Richmond Rec coordinator, Holly Stoddard, Rotarians have been visiting with our local senior citizens to enjoy good times and socializing with our good friends.
The HLRC committed to the Sandy Bottom Park and community enjoyment of the facilities. More details are coming to our History page!
HLRC is a proud Sponsor of the Honeye Junior Baseball league in our community.
In partnership with our area Rotarians, we hosted the DTA in April 2022. More details of this and pictures to come!
Here's a peek at some photos that reflect some of the things HLRC has committed to through the years. Curiosity peaked? Check back soon for details on these pictures and more!
More "Community Connections" and pictures coming soon: Graduation and Memorial Awards, Grants, Flamingo Flocking, Afghans and Honor Flights, Senior Programs, DTA details, RYLA, Toys for Tots, Roadside Trash Pickup, Nepal/House of Hearts, Disaster Relief support, Shelter Boxes, Camp Onseyawa help, Progressive Picnic, and so much more! Can't wait? Reach out to a Honeoye Lake Rotarian and they'll be happy to share all of the great projects we love to do!
Thanks to all who participated in December's festivities above and below, keep an eye out for more to come in the New Year!
