Welcome to HonCC's DE Recertification site! This training serves to review UH-System and Honolulu Community College policies as well as introduce a primary Quality Matters strategy. We’ll focus on practicing course mapping and reflect on how the different aspects of our online courses align to ensure measurable module or unit-level outcomes.
Providing a brief tour of any online site is valuable for students to understand where to find information within the site. If you create your own site recording, it might be valuable to note that dates and deadlines in the tour might be older or different (as each semester is different). We encourage you to review our brief video highlighting the different pages and sections of this training site.
Let’s start this training with the end in mind! Since this training isn't exhaustive, we will focus on providing you information on two strands: 1) information and documents regarding UH-System and Honolulu Community College policies relating to distance education, and 2) provide you with simple, practical, and pedagogically based tips on how to map an online course in congruence with Quality Matters. Feel free to review this example that makes-up the final product for this training: ENG 100 - Course Map Example.
This training is organized into three modules. Each module contains a basis of readings and activities. This training serves as a general overview of the foundational practices and requirements of our faculty teaching distance education courses and also offers a basic foundation for instructional design strategies to assist in the mapping of an online course in congruence with several Quality Matters standards. If you're interested in learning more about e-learning and teaching, check out our TOT: Teaching Online Training site. Portions of this training's content have been modified from our UH System's 5-Week Online Trainings.
