Trezor.io/Start | Getting Started with Secure Device Setup
Setting up a new hardware wallet should be simple, but security needs to come first. The official Trezor.io/Start page provides the starting point for connecting a Trezor device, installing Trezor Suite, and completing the initial wallet setup. Trezor says the standard setup takes around 15 minutes.
Start with Trezor Suite
Visit Trezor.io/Start and download the official Trezor Suite desktop application, or continue with the web app when appropriate. Trezor recommends the installed application for most users.
Once Suite is open, connect your Trezor device using the appropriate cable. The software guides you through the connection and security checks. If you are setting up a newer Trezor model, the device may also guide you through authentication and basic operating instructions.
Verify Your Trezor Device
Before creating or using a wallet, inspect the device and its packaging. Trezor recommends purchasing through its official shop, official Amazon storefront, or an authorized reseller. The package should not appear tampered with, and the device should pass the security checks presented by Trezor Suite.
An important security feature is that Trezor devices are shipped without firmware installed. During setup, Trezor Suite guides you through installing the appropriate official firmware. This design provides an additional security check during initialization.
Install Firmware and Create Your Wallet
After connecting the device, follow Trezor Suite's instructions to install the latest firmware. Depending on the model, you may be able to choose between Standard and Bitcoin-only firmware.
After firmware installation, continue through the device-authentication process. Supported newer models can perform a cryptographic authenticity check to help confirm that the hardware is genuine and has not been altered.
The next stage is creating your wallet and generating its wallet backup. Trezor now generally uses “wallet backup” rather than “recovery seed,” although older documentation may use the previous terminology. Your backup is essential because it can help restore access if the physical device is lost or damaged.
Protect Your Wallet Backup
Write the backup words down carefully using the materials supplied with your device and store them securely. Never share your wallet backup with another person, and do not enter it into a website, email, chat, or unknown application. Anyone who obtains the backup may be able to access the associated wallet.
For additional protection, learn more about Trezor's official security guidance before transferring significant funds.
Complete Setup and Manage Crypto
Once setup is complete, Trezor Suite lets you manage supported crypto accounts, view your portfolio, and send or receive assets.
For a safe start, always navigate directly to Trezor.io/Start, verify that you are using official Trezor software, protect your wallet backup, and carefully review transaction details on your device before confirming.
