PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Unique to this year's homes tour is a project still under construction. This new build is uniquely positioned in Riverbend, backing up to a floodplain against the slopes of the West Bend of the Trinity River. With access to the biking and running path on the Trinity, walking distance to new developments and restaurants sprouting up on White Settlement and just a few minutes drive to Downtown, West 7th or I30, this location has everything a young homeowner could ask for. Despite a lot of new construction along this portion of White Settlement Road and Roberts Cut Off Rd, including the new residential River District neighborhood, McGee Drive remains a quiet neighborhood with long-standing residents.

Having no backyard neighbor, the owner wanted to position the home to take advantage of the views to the south and ample natural light. While the landscape viewed from the first floor is mostly of the wildflower-filled detention pond and green slopes of the trinity banks, topped with a walking and biking trail, from the second story you begin to see the peaks of the buildings downtown. The home design features large glazed openings, views all the way through the home and deep back porch canopies. These features, coupled with existing foliage protected during construction, allow diffuse natural light to flood the main living areas without glare from the southern exposure.

The homeowner wanted a functional floor plan with a large master suite, open floor plan between the kitchen and great room, a first floor office which could also be a fourth bedroom and two additional bedrooms on the second floor with a loft living area/game room. The layout and size are a function of planning for the immediate and the future. The young homeowner will have a dedicated office for work, a functional back porch to enjoy the outdoors and play with his pup, and ample space for entertaining friends and loved ones. The house is also sized for a family.

As the construction comes to completion, the homeowner is finalizing finishes and fixtures choices. Upon entry, you'll be greeted with an elegant bar area complete with live edge wood accents, glass shelves and brushed nickel hardware, before passing through to the bright open great room. They look forward to a live edge Burr Oak dining table intersecting the kitchen island; the slab is from a tree harvested from the homeowner's family's new construction overlooking the Colonial Country Club in town.
