The charming Coonoor has always been the Nilgiri district's best kept secret. In the 19th century Englishmen set up a slew of summer cottages and bestowed upon Coonoor a most restorative character that any Indian hill station could possibly have. They pioneered a grand new way of relaxation, in the blue hills of 'Neilgherries' in Tamil Nadu.
Coonoor is about 300 kms from Bangalore, 575 kms from Chennai , 110 kms from Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu, India) and 18 kms from Ooty on the Ooty- Mettupalayam –Coimbatore motorway. From Bangalore one can drive by road via Mysore, Nanjangud, Bandipur, Mudumalai, Masnagudi, Ooty and to Coonoor. The travel time will be about 8 hours by road.
From Chennai one can drive by road on NH 46 to Krishnagiri via Ranipettai and Vellore, NH7 to Dharmapuri and then on to Coonoor via Mettur, Avanashi, Coimbatore and Mettupalayam. The nearest airport to Coonoor is at Coimbatore, from where one can drive up to Coonoor in about 2 hours .Coimbatore is connected from all major Metros in India by various Airlines. The flying time from Bangalore and Chennai will be about an hour and less than Two and half hours from Mumbai and New Delhi.
Coimbatore is also easily accessible by train from most metros and cities in India. One another way to reach Coonoor is to arrive at Mettupalayam railway station from Coimbatore and take the world Heritage Nilgiri Mountain Train on the Mettupalayam-Coonoor-Ooty up train. The Twin cottages of "Villa Sukun" and "Villa Jannat" are located in Bandishola on the Coonoor-Kotagiri motorway and is 5 Kms from the famous tourist destination the "Sims Park" in COONOOR. Keep Sims Park to your left and head north. After driving for about 3 Kms one will pass the "ELK HILL ESTATE" on the right and within one Kilometer arrive at the Bandishola crossing. Continue to drive north for about a Kilometer through the town and one will pass a temple on the left. Slow down here and as one negotiates the curve , the gates to the cottages will be on your right. This is the road which drives you up on a small hillock leading you up right to the gates of "Villa Sukun" and "Villa Jannat".
