Annual memberships are billed upon signup and on the same day the following year. For example if you sign up on August 12th, then your membership will be billed on August 12th of the following year.

There is a one-time enrollment fee of $40 that all new members must pay at sign up. This is to help cover the replacement costs of items that are not returned or are damaged.
There is a two month "trial period" in which new members are restricted from checking out the more expensive items (colored red in the catalog). This ensures items will be returned on time and in working order before allowing high-dollar items to be checked out.
