Welcome to Holzwerx

Holzwerx ... a name made up of two German words: "Holz" which means wood and "Werks" which means factory.  It is pronounced "holts verks" but it frankly doesn't matter how you say it.  This name is just a nod to my family's German heritage.

I am the sole proprietor of Holzwerx.com, a custom woodworking and furniture repair service. I have been working off and on in this space since the early 1980's as a kid where I grew up on a small family farm in southeast Nebraska.  My first commissioned project was a set of bunkbeds that I built as a teenager and that was more than 40 years ago.  My strengths include creative problem solving and people-centered service.

Services offered:

Furniture Repair - dressers, cabinets, tables, and chairs.  In many cases I can restore the cosmetic as well as the functional aspects of damaged furniture with a fairly quick turnaround. I specialize in repairing damaged drawers and cabinet doors. My initial fee is $117 and that covers the first hour of work.  Additional time is billed out at $80/hour in quarters of an hour.  Most repairs can be done within the first hour.  If it's likely to be more, I can provide a quote and if it takes less time, you will not be charged more than the actual time it takes to complete the job. 

Furniture Assembly - Did you just buy an unassembled item from IKEA, World Market, or Wayfair?  Or flat-packed cabinets?  I can assemble them as designed and can often make them more structurally sound than the standard assembly. Take an unused bedroom and turn it into a cozy library space with a murphy bed for guests in just a few days!  Price varies with project scope and materials requirements.

Custom Woodworking - I design and build cabinets, workbenches, benches, carts, mobile islands, mobile cabinets, desks, and tables.  I also modify existing cabinetry to accommodate new functions including pull-out shelving (replacing static cabinet shelving with large shallow drawers), power grommets, and more. If you have some favorite baskets or boxes, I can design a cabinet, cart, or bench around them ... so re-imagine your favorite organizer bins inside a custom drawer, desk, cabinet, hutch, or bench! Speaking of desks, one of my favorite projects is a height adjustable desk with built-in power, cable management, and adjustable monitor arm.  Price varies with project scope and materials requirements.

Non Profit Auction Items - If you represent a non-profit group that is looking for items to auction for a fund raiser, I'm always interested in collecting your organization's information.  I cannot participate in every such auction opportunity but I do like to have those events on my calendar!  Please use the contact form below to share as much information as you have about the auction.  Thank you!

Closet & Garage - Does your closet or garage need some attention?  I can design and install cabinets and organizer systems for you. If you like the Container Store, or the tried and true ClosetMaid products, I can help! From packaged cabinet systems with or without custom modifications to wall organizers like slat wall or gladiator, I will assist in returning your spaces to peaceful havens of organization! Price varies with project scope and materials requirements.

TV Mounting - I have extensive experience wall-mounting large and small televisions as well as cable routing through walls as needed to hide cabling.  I can also help with moving electrical outlets to more desirable locations for such needs.  Price varies with project scope and materials requirements.  

AV Cable Management - From taking a rat's nest of cables to an organized sleeved bundle or a completely hidden solution, I can provide you with an organized approach to tidy cables for your office or home. Price varies with project scope and materials requirements.
