Summer Camp

 We need to start planning on attending Summer Camp. Summer Camp is one of the most memorable and rewarding parts of Scouting, and at many Scoutmaster Conferences and Eagle Scout Ceremonies we typically hear of great stories of bonding and friendships established, experiences and learning achieved, and outright fun that all happened at Summer Camp.  

Here are some of the Summer Camp 2025 details:

SUMMER CAMP 2025 SELECTION

We will attend summer camp this year at Ockanickon Scout Reservation in Pipersville, PA, about an hour from home. It’s the best choice for our Troop as it has experienced leadership and staff, offers a great first-year program called Dan Beard (see page 16 in the Ockanickon Program Guide Summer 2025) that focuses on advancement, merit badges, the patrol method, and offers great facilities and food. 

DATE SELECTION CHOICES

We need to select a week that will work for everyone. The options that work for the Troop's adult leadership are as follows (the other weeks that the camp is available are either Sold Out or present scheduling conflicts):

Week 3 2025 – June 29, 2025 to July 5, 2025 (Sunday through Saturday)

Week 4 2025 – July 6, 2025 to July 12, 2025 (Sunday through Saturday)

Week 6 2025 – July 20, 2025 to July 26, 2025 (Sunday through Saturday)

COSTS

Camp fees are listed at this link. Youth cost will range from $540 to $595 depending on when the fee is paid in full. This fee is all inclusive for everything at camp, including items required for merit badge completion. Please review the Ockanickon Summer Camp Refund Policy to become aware of the camp’s refund policy and requirements.

Camperships (financial assistance) are available to youth campers for families who are in financially difficult situations. To apply you must complete the application at this link by April 1, 2025.

For adults, we will be provided with 2 free slots. If adults wish to attend beyond current Troop adult leadership we will split the associated fees ($250 per additional adult) – for example, if 2 other adults attend summer camp we will have 4 adults in total, which will cost $500, which would be split 4 ways ($125 per adult). Any adults wishing to attend summer camp must register as an adult with Scouting America and take all required trainings prior to attending summer camp (no exceptions per Scouting America policy).

MEDICAL FORMS

All Scouts and Adults attending Summer Camp must submit a Scouting America Medical Form (link to Scouting America requirements and form link under “Are You Going to Camp?”). Since summer camp is an event lasting over 72 hours all participants (Scouts and Adults) must submit Parts A, B1, B2 and C – note that Part C requires the signature of the participant’s doctor, and typically requires a physical exam – this signature must be dated within a year of the ending date of summer camp – for example, if we go to camp on Week 3 that ends on July 5, 2025 the doctor’s signature date cannot be older than July 6, 2024.

GEAR AND WHAT TO BRING

Troop adult leadership will work with the boys and inform all families about what gear and essentials will be needed for summer camp. The boys will be camping in tents provided by Ockanickon, so the gear needed will be limited to clothing, personal items, and some camping gear. Please don’t go out and start purchasing equipment – we will hold a separate Summer Camp Preparation Meeting where we will discuss and demonstrate the items needed – in some cases we may be able to lend equipment if necessary.
