This project is from a visual art assignment in response to reading Lord of The Flies. 

I quickly became close with the characters in the book, and really felt for their downfalls, and the overall chaos of the boys' lives on the island. I chose an Adolf Hitler quote to represent the downfalls of Ralph and Jack's ruling of the island, and using their friends for their benefit but not caring about them as humans, and letting them die. Simon and Piggy's deaths absolutely crushed me, as they were the most pure hearted children in the story, and would take any hits to help the others. 

I used image overlay and fading to create a multi-dimensional background with the forest, fire, and vignette. I added the head of the beast as well as Piggy and Simon's by hand removing the background pixel by pixel (before the days of auto BG removal). Lastly, the text was color match to the flames to stand out amongst the dark forest, and look bold and intimidating, as is the subject of the quote.
