SYNOPSIS:
Jeremih's 2010 hit song " I Like," featuring Ludacris is a very interesting song in many ways. But, today we will be focusing on how the artist used many ways how ways of sexism, and dehumanizes women in his music video. While the video shows several scenes of women being dehuminzed that includes when their body is shown, the seductive faces they make. While this sounds so bad the artist is expressing how he has a desire to be sexually interactive with a woman. It's almost as if most of our our music genres in the US has almost normalized making women a sex symbol. But coming from the article, "Two Ways a Woman Can get Hurt," by Jean Kilbourne hits on many ways how the image of women is being destroyed from judgement,sexism, and etc. Jeremih Song reflects on a lot she said were some of the problems for women. We're going to be analyzing a images from the video that reflect on a few things from Kilbourne's passage.
Sexual Innuendos::
In these two scenes of the Jeremih "I Like,"the picture on the right shows a women in lingerie on a yacht, the second image shows multiple women surrounding jeremih at the table.In scene women body parts are being exposed which can show tracks of dehumanization making it seem as women are only to be seen in this video with their cleavage showing. Kilborne stated that,“ Sex in advertising is pornographic because it dehuminizes, and objectifies people, especially women and because fetishsizes products and imbues them with erotic charge." In the image to the bottom you can see Jeremih with several poorly covered women, at the time his lyrics state," I would like to take the time to rub your body, kiss and hug your body." This reflects on Kilbourne's statement by the artist wanting to pursue the women in a very lustful way.
Toxic Masculinity:
Now discussing on the type of attitude Jeremih showed in the song and some subliminal messages scenes the scene displays. The image to the right Jeremih is being shown with half covered women. Kilborne stated in her passage,"Advertising often encourages women to be attracted to hostile and indifferent men while encouraging boys to become these men.” That statement fits this image because nowadays in this generation the guy with all the half naked girls are the cool ones and young boys idolize that image and most girls wanna be with him no matter the flaw. All of the women in the video seem happy because they're around him, and its multiple so this can represent objectifying women. This image can also be taken as domination the reason why is there is a table for of girls and just him all of them seem as if they worship him this can be taking as male dominance/ superiority.
Conclusion:
