Mrs. Joanna Sideris
¡Bienvenido a la clase de español!
This course provides continued practice in the four basic skills of learning the Spanish language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Cultural studies are continued throughout the various grade levels. A spiral curriculum based on state and Diocesan standards and best practices in acquiring a world language will be followed, in which structures learned in previous years are expanded and reinforced and new ones are introduced. Pronunciation and intonation patterns are refined. Reading, writing and grammar and syntax are given added emphasis in the upper grades. Prayers are also taught according to grade level. Kindergarten begins with the Sign of the Cross, 1st Grade and up recite Glory Be, 3rd Grade through 8th Grade recite Hail Mary, and 5th -8th Grades recite Our Father.
The basic units of study are as follows:
I. School & classroom objects and subjects
II. Greetings & conversations
III. The self: parts of the body, clothing, autobiographical information
IV. Family, home & community
V. Geography & culture
VI. Holidays & religion
VII. Grammar and syntax
