The winters in North Dakota are long, cold, and dark. The lack of fresh air and sun can be difficult for many people, and the citizens of Denmark have this same issue. But, they have found a simple solution for the winter blues many of us experience; it is called Hygge (Pronounced "hoo-ga").
Hygge is difficult to explain, but it roughly translates to "coziness," a feeling of slowness and enjoying the present moment. In essence, it means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying good things with good people. How you achieve the sense of hygge is different for everyone, but you can do simple and inexpensive things to achieve your ideal hygge atmosphere. Listed below are tips to create hygge, but feel free to change it up to fit your needs and preferences. You will also find some cozy read recommendations and a recipe perfect for a day of hygge.
