‘Anum’ comes from the Melanau dialect, where it means ‘water’. The Melanau, one of Sarawak’s indigenous ethnic groups, have long lived in close connection with rivers and the sea. Inspired by this heritage, Anum is now reimagined as a mobile app that uses Augmented Reality (AR) to help users uncover hidden water usage by scanning real-world objects. It calculates virtual water footprints, estimates costs based on Malaysia’s water tariffs, and inspires conservation through education, gamification, and community engagement.
