I've been raising chickens since April 2020. We've learned a lot, including new carpentry skills, we've made wonderful memories, had heartbreaks after bobcat attacks, started over twice, and here we are now. I had no idea chickens could be such an emotional experience! But the benefits of eating eggs from back yard raised chickens is totally worth it. Did you know they're clinically proven to have more nutrients in them than store bought? They're also much fresher, and still in their organic form (not rinsed after collection) they'll last weeks on the counter! Store bought eggs could be 3-4 weeks old by the time you bring them home. At most, ours are 1-3 days old. Waiting to rinse them until you're ready to cook them allows the "bloom" to remain on the eggs. This protective layer prevents bacteria from ruining the eggs. If you do prefer rinsed eggs, no need to worry! They still last a while refrigerated!
