Hollym Village Hall, A Potted History.
Hollym Village Hall was built in 1963. Prior to its existence village groups like the Women’s Institute and Parish Council met at the School which was located on Northside Road and coincidentally closed in 1963 and is now a private dwelling.
The concept of Hollym having a Village Hall was developed during the 1950s when a fundraising committee was set up. A site was identified and what was originally two first world war army huts located at Spurn Point were bought at public auction in 1960. They were dismantled and re-erected as a single unit on the current site. Shortly after construction the side annex was added.
Since 1963 the Village Hall has been maintained and developed by a dedicated team of local residents who make up the management committee.
Since its construction the Village Hall has played host to numerous groups and organisations as well as one off functions. The facilities and space lends itself well as a place for meetings, bingo, exhibitions, concerts, parties, auctions and more physical activities such as carpet bowls and table tennis.
Recent improvements to the Village Hall have included redecorating the main hall and annex, improved storage, new toilets, the kitchen and new floor coverings as well as the installation of a security system. Insulation and external cladding.
The management committee remain committed to maintaining and developing the hall and welcome the support of the community.
