Growing up in the city, I never imagined that I would live anywhere near a farm. Years later, I now live 5 miles in any direction from a cow, tractor or hog farm. I thought that I would always live in the city because it was always alive and full of life. Now living in the country, I wouldn't want it any other way. Living in the country I have learned the values of family, friends and hard work through helping with chores on the farm and helping out with both harvest and planting seasons.
Deb has been my biggest support in everything that I have been involved in.
Dallas, Tayler, Kevin and my nieces Serenity and Abbigayle
People always tell me that my dad and I look alike... I don't really see it
My stepdad Patrick acts like a second dad and a third brother.
I am the youngest of 4 kids from Derek and Deb. My mom, Deb. My mom has since been remarried, and I now live with Deb and Patrick. The one person that I have such a strong bond with my mom because I've been with her my whole life. No matter where we lived, it was my mom and I against the world.
In school, I am the involved student in many extracurricular activities. In school, I was the President of the Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) Club. The KAY club focuses on benefiting the school, community, nation and world through activities of service. Being a part of the KAY club, I attended leadership camp two years in a row. From KLC and serving in our local KAY club, I learned that importance of serving for a cause
My roommates and I on the banquet night during KLC 2017. This is the last night of camp where we reflect on what we've done during the week.
At KLC, you make friends that you will keep forever. I still talk to people from both years that I attended KLC.
Hannah was one of the camp counselors both years that I attended KLC. She and I shared a special bond and she even talked me into applying for camp staff.
Another activity I am involved in school is yearbook. This year, I am an editor at The Radar, my schools' yearbook. At The Radar, I make sure everything is getting done promptly, so that we are able to get our book out on time. Another task I am responsible for is checking all proof pages that come back to make sure they are accurate before they are submitted back to the plant for printing. This is a big responsibility because any error I don't catch will be printed in the book.
I also played softball in high school. From a young age, I had been obsessed with softball. I played every summer on a team from the age of six. When I finally reached high school, I was so excited to play the game I had been in love with for years. Now, as a senior in high school, my passion for softball has grown, and I will be moving on to play at the collegiate level.
In high school, I ensured my acceptance into college by studying hard and not letting my grades slip even when I got really busy. Whenever I struggled to understand a concept, I would go talk to my teacher to help understand what was going on. I also Googled helpful studying tips when it came to studying for chemistry or my complex dual-credit classes.
When I grow up, I aspire to be a pediatrician. With that career, I would eventually like to become a member of Doctors Without Borders and go to a third-world country and take care of children who are malnourished. By going to Peru State College, I will be on track to get all of my credits to be accepted in to the University of Nebraska Medical Center for Medical School. I also plan on joining a club that is focused on people who are planning on going into the medical field. My roommate and I are staying in the Honors LLC, which is the dorms where one has to maintain a certain GPA to stay on the floor.
One of my favorite quotes is:
I like this quote because when my mom got sick, I didn't think there was a way anything else was going to go right. When I finally told myself that the way to make things better was to change my outlook, I found that I was much happier with my life. I also found that I was much more appreciative of everything I had, Including my family.
