Fae Courts

In the beating heart of Elfame, a tree stripped bare of leaves twists and gnarls its black bark as the Titania Throne. There sits the Queen of Elfhame (airemarshal#0530), rightfully revered by their loyal subjects of the Seelie Courts. 

Elfame is located in the Killerjade Forests. Thickets of trees, flora, and fauna  are alive until they wither and die, as they should, in harsh winters. Vast meadows have been cleared for fae courts to be built, their civilization and architecture rivalling that of mortalkind. 

Fae are beings of magic with a near-human appearance. Save for their glimmering wings and sharp ears, they are often said to be very beautiful, and possess noble features that human royalty cannot rival. Fae are infamously protective of their territories, and Elfame, as a result, is viciously guarded. Trespassers never leave with their heads, and if they do, which is a rarity, it is never in one piece. 

Their connection with the world exists on a physical and magical level. This connection - called the Jade Ward - allows them to feel what Lufori feels. The Fae believe the lands of Lufori are alive and breathing, and it is up to them to ensure its maintenance; when calamities strike, the Fae prioritize how it upsets the careful balance of nature and work to return to equilibrium. 

The Fae worship the (x) dragon deity.

The Seelie Courts are further divided into multiple courts that are loyal to the Titania Queen. Each court rules over a region of Elfhame. The courts, in general, represent an aspect of nature the lord or lady of the court also oversees. 

For instance, the Winter Court rules over the region of  Pales. The fae of the Winter court possess powers in relation to the season, such as the ability to manifest ice. 

The Seelie Courts are selective and prideful. Only pureblooded fae are invited into the throngs of court, and interspecies breeding is considered an act of sacrilege. Reputation, impression, and influence are the air the court breathes, and despite the honest, blunt nature of fae, they still demand their lofty expectations to be met. This descends from their long history of nobility, for the Seelie Courts overpowered the Unseelie Courts in a 500-year struggle for the Titania Throne.  

The horrors of war are still fresh in their mind. Unseelie fae, above all else, will never use violence against any being unless necessary.

The Unseelie Courts operate on the same level as the Seelie Courts. Though Elfame is ruled by the Titania Queen, the Unseelie Courts have given their loyalty to the Midnight Queen (realreveli#5476), seat of the Midnight Throne. 

Historically, Seelie and Unseelie were terms used to decipher which fae is "good" or "bad", but that misconception lies in humanity's interpretation of fae. The truth is that all fae possess characteristics of "good" and "bad", like all beings do, but they embrace them. They instead embrace the life and culture of their respective courts. 

The Unseelie Courts command dark and gloam, and like their shadow queen, operate in truths eclipsed. They live in relative peace with the rest of Elfame, but peace is as fragile as power. They are more impulsive to use fear and intimidation compared to their Seelie sisters, and are always seconds away from spilling blood.
