Final Goodbyes
By: Erin Masarjian
Until next time, the Nile will be in my dreams forever. The trip has so inspired me, and it only scratched the surface of what I would love to explore in Egypt. I plan to draw, paint, and write poetry about my experience and the experience of our group. I would love to go back to Egypt. Until then, I will continue my obsession with PBS documentaries about Egypt and save up extra money to get there!
Beyond Buffet
The foods of the Gods
Heaping bowls of goodness
Vibrance like fumes
Radiating colors
Pulsing with the sun
The source that grew them
Dates glistening with life sugars
Deep Earth brown and almost black
Mother Nature’s Sweet Treat
Green honeydew light and wet
Hydrating nourishment
My eyes see mounds of pomegranate seeds
Like pink and red rubies
Piled high like jewels
On display, Forbidden Treasures-
Look but don’t touch
Smell but don’t eat
My eyes feast as my mouth salivates
I swallow empty throatfuls
And fill up more and more
With empty air
Belly full and exhale
I close my eyes and the aromas
Permeate into my soul
Philo dough morsels
Dripping with honey
Sing for my tastebuds
Beg to be my offering
Smells of sweet and savory
Dance in my nostrils, trick my belly
As I crave what I cannot have
