The Holland Fire Department has been around since 1867 and is known as a combination department. This means that there are Full-Time staff working 24/7/365, and Paid on Call members used to supplement response to larger incidents. We operate out of 3 Stations. Our emergency vehicles include:
4 Engines
1 Aerial Tower (Ladder) truck
2 Rescue vehicles
2 Staff vehicles
1 Rescue Boat
1 Drone
There are 24 Full-Time Firefighting staff members, 30 Paid on Call members (when fully staffed) and 1 Administrative Assistant.
Members are required to attend 2 trainings per month and keep a response rate of 60% of emergency incidents. Keep in mind, the Paid on Call group is not called out to all of the roughly 4,000 calls per year. Average number of Paid on Call responses is about 2-4 per month. Incidents can last anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours.
Certain POC members assist with helping keep our trucks and equipment ready to respond at any given time. They check it weekly, at minimum, and fix what they can or notify the Officer in charge of apparatus.
With completion of basic Firefighter training complete, you can eventually specialize in areas such as Driving/Pumping (bigger trucks), HazMat, Water Rescue, Drone Operations, and more.
