Welcome to our cosmos

"Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky" - Kahlil Gibran

On the 9th of September a Canvas notification planted a little seed under the section “Theatre text choices and matches”.

Slowly, while reading - this seed grew into a tree. We removed some sand, uncovering its roots. We hugged the trunk, lied down next to it, gazing at its leaves. What was the structure within the leaves? How did the tree feel?

Autumn fell and through the branches the clouds became visible. What shape did the clouds have? A bird flew by and the sun encouraged new plants to grow. What was the bird telling us?

Welcome in the cosmos of Hold Your Own.

Within this cosmos, you - the reader - will get an insight into this seed, the body of Hold Your Own, it’s branches, it’s roots and the world around it. This world could be explored freely - read separately and in a random order, picking up on those things that arouse interest. To get an idea of how we created this cosmos, take a look at the questions we departed from:

  • Who is Kae Tempest?

  • Is and in what way is Hold Your Own autobiographical?

  • Who is Tiresias?

  • What are the themes that are covered in the poems?

  • What are the most important themes? How can we explore them further?

  • What does it mean to ‘hold your own’?

We hope you enjoy strolling around (and climb carefully)!
