HOLD THE TAB ("the Extension") is a tab manager and new-tab page for Google Chrome.
This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension accesses, where that data is stored, and what it does not do. In short, HOLD THE TAB is a local-first extension with no servers, no user accounts, and no data collection.
We do not collect, store, transmit, sell, rent, or share your data.
We operate no servers and maintain no backend infrastructure.
We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking, or fingerprinting technologies.
Everything you create remains in your browser, and if you choose to enable Chrome Sync, within your own Google account.
To provide its functionality as a tab manager and new-tab page, the Extension accesses the following information locally on your device:
Using Chrome's tabs permission, the Extension can access:
Tab titles
Tab URLs
Window associations
This information is used solely to:
Display open tabs
Group tabs by window
Detect and merge duplicate tabs
Switch between tabs
Close tabs
Save tabs into collections or sessions
This information is processed locally and is never transmitted anywhere.
Using Chrome's storage permission, the Extension stores information such as:
Saved collections
Saved tabs
Sessions
Spaces
Tasks
Layout preferences
Theme settings
All data is stored using Chrome's storage APIs on your device.
The Extension uses Chrome's built-in favicon service to display website icons for saved tabs and collections.
No browsing data is transmitted to us.
The Extension does not access, collect, or store:
Page content
Keystrokes
Form submissions
Passwords
Payment information
Browsing history
Personal communications
By default, all data is stored locally using:
chrome.storage.local
Your information remains on your device.
If you enable Sync Across Devices, the Extension additionally stores data using:
chrome.storage.sync
Chrome may then synchronize that data through your Google account so it becomes available on other devices where you are signed into Chrome.
Important:
Synchronization is performed entirely by Google.
It is governed by Google's own privacy and security practices.
We do not have access to any synced data.
We cannot view, retrieve, or modify data stored through Chrome Sync.
You can disable Sync at any time, which removes the synced copy while keeping local data on the current device.
You remain fully in control of your data.
The Extension provides options to:
Export your data as a JSON backup
Import previously exported data
Clear all stored data
These actions can be performed directly from the Extension settings.
The Extension uses the Geist font through Google Fonts:
fonts.googleapis.com
fonts.gstatic.com
When fonts are loaded, Google may receive your IP address as part of the standard font delivery process.
This is:
The only outbound network request made by the Extension
Unrelated to your tabs, collections, tasks, or saved data
Subject to Google's own privacy policies
If the font cannot be loaded, the Extension falls back to your system font.
The Extension does not use:
Google Analytics
Advertising networks
Tracking pixels
User behavior analytics
Session recording tools
Fingerprinting technologies
We do not:
Sell your data
Rent your data
Trade your data
Share your data with third parties
Transfer your data for marketing purposes
Your data is used solely to provide functionality on your own device.
Because data is stored locally in your browser (and optionally in your Chrome account through Sync), you control how long it is retained.
Deleting collections, spaces, sessions, or tasks removes them from storage.
Using Clear All Data removes all Extension data.
Uninstalling the Extension removes locally stored data.
If Chrome Sync is enabled, you may also disable Sync or clear synced data through your Google account settings.
HOLD THE TAB is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed toward children under the age of 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
If changes are made, the Last Updated date at the top of this document will be revised and the updated version will be published at the privacy policy URL referenced in the Chrome Web Store listing.
