For Hokkaido University undergraduate students and students from other universities who are interested in our laboratory and wish to pursue graduate studies:
(1) Our laboratory operates with a core seminar time (approximately once a week for 1.5 hours), with additional individual meetings with faculty members as needed.
(2) For third-year undergraduates, we primarily engage in weekly readings of statistics (and potentially other subjects depending on circumstances). We aim to provide a foundational understanding of statistics to prepare students for their subsequent research projects.
(3) We conduct weekly progress reports (or paper presentations) within the laboratory. Presentations are generally expected every two to three weeks.
(4) Students have the flexibility to discuss and decide on their research topics with faculty members or independently. While determining one's research topic independently may seem challenging, we believe it offers substantial rewards and is essential to the essence of research.
To international students,
(1) Students with strong background in physics, mathematics, and information science are strongly encouraged to contact us. We are not accepting visiting students nor research students.
(2) When you write an email to us, please write your technical background not your personality. In particular, papers including arXiv are welcome.
(3) Please read our papers and write why you are interested in the papers and how to improve them.
(4) Please let us know your financial plan after getting into our group.
(5) We recommend that international students interested in joining our Master's program undergo a six-month research student period. During this time, we assess their compatibility with our group and determine their eligibility for the program.
