Privacy Policy — QR Code Scanner

QR Code Scanner ("the App", "we", "us") is an Android application that scans and creates QR codes and barcodes. This policy explains what the App collects, why, and what control you have over it.
By installing or using the App you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please uninstall the App.
1. Summary
- Scans are processed on your device. Code images are never uploaded to us.
- Your scan history, settings and theme stay on your device.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- Third-party advertising and analytics services inside the App do collect device and usage data, as described in Section 5.
- The App tailors its appearance and content to you — theme, language, layout and which features are shown. Section 4 explains how.
2. Permissions the App requests
Camera — To read QR codes and barcodes through the viewfinder. The camera feed is processed on-device and is never recorded, stored or transmitted.
Internet and network state — To load ads, fetch remote configuration, deliver notifications, and open links you choose to open.
Notifications (Android 13 and above) — To send you reminders, feature announcements and offers. You may decline; the App keeps working.
Vibration — Haptic feedback on a successful scan. You can turn it off in Settings.
Photos and storage (Android 9 and below) — To scan a QR code from an image you pick, and to save a QR code you create. On Android 10 and above the system media picker is used and no broad storage permission is requested.
Advertising ID — Used by the advertising services described in Section 5.
You can revoke any permission at any time in Android Settings, under Apps, QR Code Scanner, Permissions.
3. Information stored on your device
The following is written to the App's private storage on your phone. We cannot read it, and it is removed when you uninstall the App or clear its data.
- Scan and creation history — the decoded content, its format and a timestamp. Saved only if history is enabled in Settings. You can delete individual entries, clear the whole history, choose a retention period, or switch history off entirely.
- Your preferences — beep, vibrate, auto-open links, auto-copy, history retention, chosen language and theme.
- App caches — temporary files created by image loading and the scanner, which you can clear from the in-app Cleaner screen.
Automatic Android backup of App data is disabled, so this data is not copied to your Google account by the App.
4. Customized experience and app theme
The App is designed to adapt to you, and does so in these ways:
Theme. You choose Light, Dark or System in Settings. The App stores that choice locally and applies it to every screen. When set to System, the App follows your device's dark-mode setting.
Language. You choose the App's display language during onboarding or in Settings. It is stored through Android's per-app language setting.
Scanner behaviour. Sound, vibration, auto-open and auto-copy behave the way you set them.
Remotely configured experience. We use Firebase Remote Config to adjust which features, screens, promotions, onboarding steps and ad placements are shown, and to roll changes out gradually. These decisions may take into account general, non-identifying signals such as your App version, device language, country, and whether your install came from an advertising campaign (see Install attribution in Section 5). This is used to shape the App's layout and content — it is not used to build a profile of you as an individual, and no scan content is ever involved.
Notifications and in-app offers. If you allow notifications, the messages and in-app promotional content you see may be selected based on the same signals, plus how you use the App, for example which screens you have opened.
If you prefer not to receive personalized promotional content, turn off notifications for the App and opt out of ad personalization as described in Section 5.
5. Third-party services
The App includes software from the providers below. They operate under their own privacy policies and may collect data such as your advertising ID, IP address, device model and operating system version, coarse location derived from your IP, and in-app events.

Advertising and consent. Where required by law, for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the App shows a consent form from Google's User Messaging Platform before personalized ads are served, and respects your answer. You may change or withdraw consent from the App's privacy option where shown.
Opting out of personalized ads. Android Settings, then Google, then Ads, lets you delete or reset your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalization device-wide.
Install attribution. The App reads the Google Play install referrer to understand which campaign an install came from. This is used for attribution and for the configuration described in Section 4.
6. Links, websites and other apps
Scanned codes frequently contain links. Opening one — in your browser, in the App's in-app browser, or in another app such as your dialer, mail or contacts app — takes you outside this policy's scope, and the destination's own terms and privacy practices apply. Always check a scanned link before opening it. Some in-app content and offers are sponsored and open in a web view; we are not responsible for the content or data practices of those pages.
7. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data and we do not share your scan content with anyone. Data is shared only with the service providers listed in Section 5 for the purposes stated there, or where we are legally required to disclose it.
8. Data retention and deletion
Data stored on your device is kept until you delete it, delete the App's data, or uninstall the App. History additionally expires according to the retention period you choose in Settings. Data held by the third parties in Section 5 is retained under their own policies; use the contacts in their policies to make a deletion request to them, or write to us and we will help.
9. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in your country, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent. For data on your device you can exercise most of these directly in the App. For anything else, contact us using the details below and we will respond within the period required by applicable law.
California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA and CPRA.
11. Security
We rely on Android's per-app sandbox to keep the App's data private to your device, and transmit data to our service providers over encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App changes. The updated version will be posted at this address with a new "Last updated" date, and material changes will be announced in the App or on the store listing.
