Introduction:
Hi Everyone. My name is Heather Mullinax. I am a graduate student at the University of South Carolina. I am in my final semester working to complete my master’s in library and information science. I am on the school librarian track and working on my state teaching certification.
I did not start out my career in the library, teaching, or education. I took a different route into the business world with an undergraduate degree in business administration. After a while, I found the career path that I had chosen was not the one for me, I wanted something more fulfilling. I have always had a love for reading and a passion for helping children, so the idea of being a school librarian sprang into my mind. Of course, I didn’t immediately dive in but with the support of family, I finally decided to make the transition and I could not be happier. Earlier this year I was offered a position in an elementary school library, as the librarian and I am loving every minute. Not everyday is easy, but everyday is worth it. Watching students learn that the library is a place where they can expand on the things they love and are learning about in their class brings me much joy. As a new librarian I still have many things to learn, but I am excited for the things to come in this new chapter of my career.
