Pt Hemant Mehta was born in a traditional Tapodhan Brahmin family in Gujarat, India. He is the son of the renowned Pandit Ganpatram Manishankar Mehta (who specialised in Karmakand and Jyotish Vidyas), affectionately revered by the Hindu communities in India and England. 

Pt Hemant Mehta received training in Karmakand at an early age from his father, and later from his Guru, Shri Chaitanyananda Natha Saraswati, who also initiated him into the tradition of Sri Vidya Upasana and gave poorna mantra diksha (Diksha name: Karunanandnath Saraswati). He has been initiated in to Kriya Yoga by several gurus, including Paramahansa Prajnananda. In 2019, Sadguru Mahayogi Siddhababa (from Nepal) initiated him into Maha Vidya. 

Pt Hemant Mehta continues to be mentored into Karmakand practice by several leading pandits in India (Sandipani Gurukul, Ujjain, MP), England, and Australia. He has served the communities as Hindu Priest in various countries, and is currently based in Sydney, Australia.  Other interests include Sangeet Vidya/Keertan.

Dr Hemant Mehta is also an academic, Lecturer in Medical Science (BSc Hons, MPhil, MES, PhD, GCHE, SFHEA), at a university in Sydney.
